Chapter Text
The young versions of their families look confused by the future monsters' appearances. That reaction is given when all three of them clearly know who their parents are.
Cyrus is frozen and her blood has run cold. She’s looking at young versions of two of her parents. What doesn’t help is that she looks just like her Pops and the look in Dad’s eyes shows me he sees it too.
Bastal speaks up beside her because they’ve been quiet for too long. “We are monsters from far away. We have come to look for our friends. They are lost in the school.” Cyrus hears Roberto sigh, and she can’t help but agree. The way he talks sounds too much like his mom.
“Then why are you looking through windows like creeps instead of walking through the building?” Clawdeen presses. If any of them know their aunt at all they know she won’t give up until she gets the truth. The truth is hard to swallow, though, so she will still try to lie.
“Well, I have the location of one of them and they are in a classroom with a window so we thought it would go faster to just do it this way!” She winces, she was too loud. She tends to do that when she gets nervous.
The look on their family's faces tells Cyrus they don’t believe her, so she just decides to shut her mouth. Roberto finally speaks up to say, “Well we should be going now. We gotta take the bus to get home and we need our friends.” He then starts to walk away but, as if on cue, something really bad happens.
A beeping starts up in the earbud that Cyrus is wearing. This happens because it’s about to die. Cyrus starts to panic because the punk music playing in her ear is the only thing keeping her, her!
“NO no no no no! I swear I charged these things last night! This can’t be happening!” She yells. As the music stops, she feels her body spasm. Cyrus thinks she hears someone ask if she’s okay, but she can’t answer because her head is spinning. Cyrus turns away from everyone and as fire comes from her feet and travels up her body the last thing, she thinks is that Rosanna is going to be extremely upset.

When the ghoul that used to be Cyrus straightens out, it’s not Cyrus Hyde anymore. This new monster has the same hair length as Cyrus but it’s straight and layered. Most of it is brown but it has white streaks around the hair. The one red eye has turned blue, and her skin has changed to light green. Glasses with lightning bolts on the side have appeared and her clothes have changed too. She’s wearing white pants and a black long-sleeve button-up with a yellow sweater on top of it. Her shoes have also changed to blue sneakers. This is probably the worst time for Rosanna Jekyll to make a sudden appearance.
She starts to look around confused, “Where am I?” Rose asks herself because it seems she hasn’t noticed that they were all there. She soon knows because she turns back around and comes face first with the current problem.
Recognition rushes across her face and she stands as straight as a rod, staring at the people in front of her. Before anyone can say anything, Roberto quickly whispers the situation to her not leaving any detail out. After that, Rosanna looks as though she’s trying to process what she’s just been told.
Someone clears their throat, “Um, excuse me but what was that!” Jackson exclaims. They can’t really lie anymore thanks to the fact that only the Jekyll/Hyde family is capable of shifting the way Cyrus and Rose just did. This really couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
Her dad’s words seem to take Rosanna out of her spur as the bolts on the side of her neck start to spark and flare. Everyone back in the future knows that both girls only get like that when they're on the verge of a panic attack.
As if on instinct, Bastal slid over to her and held her hand. Rosanna squeezed his hand like she was trying to crush it. Roberto decides to take over, so Rose is no longer in the spotlight. He waves his hands to get everyone's attention.
“I guess uh... The jig is up” He says with a shrug, “So, this is probably gonna be hard to hear but we are... Uh from the future!” Roberto then threw his hands up in the air to emphasize the surprise.
Clawdeen crosses her arms and levels Roberto with a serious stare, “Did you come through the portal in the catacombs?” She asks. This gives the steam robot pause. How do they know about the time travel machine? He asks just that and Frankie gives him an answer, “Well, a couple of months ago we went through the portal and back again. It was a pretty crazy few days.”
“Oh, well good to know I don’t have to explain it all,” Roberto sighs. Looking to his side, Rosanna seems to have calmed down because she's glaring daggers at him.
“Speaking of which, why did you think this was a good idea?! There were so many different ways you could have studied the portal!” Rose yelled angrily. Roberto’s mouth was agape, “Cyrus was happy to go along and she didn’t criticize me!” The Frankenstein huffs, “That’s because she’s an impulsive idiot! I love you dude, but you do dumb stuff sometimes.”
Both sighed and turned back to the group, who watched that exchange. They both look down in embarrassment, not liking the fact they just fought in front of their parents.
“Anyway, what are your names, time travelers?” Abbey asks like she’s trying to change the subject.
The smokey monster puts his hands in his jacket pockets, “My name is Bastal Burns. Nice to meet you.” The robot waves, “I’m Roberto Steam.” Finally, the ghoul puts her hands on her hips, “I’m Rosanna Jekyll and my counterpart you meet was Cyrus Hyde.”
Jackson nods, “This is a lot to take in.” The rest of that group makes affirmative sounds. “Who are you looking for?” Abbey interjects remembering the early statement of needing to find their friends.
Bastal answers his mother, “We are looking for Nubia Gorgon and Fang “Wolfy” Wolf. They got sucked into the portal first.” The half-yeti saying this makes a light bulb go off over Rose’s head.
She turns around and opens the window behind them. Upon doing this she sees the two monsters right where they had been earlier.
As everyone in the room looks at her, she says, “Do you mind us joining you in here? It’ll be easier that way.” They all look surprised as Rosanna climbs through the window and gestures for the others to do the same.
