Chapter Text

Sirk Xander - Ultimate ???
The protagonist of the story, which earns him the trademark ahoge. He prefers to go by his last name. Xander moved out of his parents’ house after high school, with his older brother Matthias, and was job-searching prior to waking up in Hope's Peak Academy. Xander has yet to decide on a career path, but he makes the most of each day while trying to find the answer. Now, most of his memories prior to moving with Matthias are hazy at best, and his memory of his talent is missing, unlike the other 15 'students' he meets. Still, despite the circumstances he finds himself in, Xander tries his best to befriend others. Xander is 5'10", tying with Pearce for the tallest male character.

Nuz “Lee” Leif - Ultimate Procrastinator
Practically procrastination incarnate, Lee tends to struggle with work of any kind unless there is an upcoming deadline. His thinking process is quite slow at the beginning, but once he catches up, he’s very quick to solve problems. This can lead to him overconfident in his abilities sometimes. Lee's method of getting work done isn't very sustainable, as it tends to leave him exhausted afterwards, but he hasn't had any luck sticking to other methods. Hope's Peak Academy has had their eye on him from an early age given his unusual abilities, and he was one of the first to be scouted when he was of age. More often than not, Lee handles most things in life the same way he handles work- leaving it until the last minute and then powering through. The day that he awoke inside the strange building with Xander and the others, he had been rushing to get ready for class and accidentally put on a skirt, leading to it being a part of his outfit during this killing game. Though his chronic tardiness tends to irritate some, most are willing to look past it due to Lee's good nature and infectious optimism. Out of the 16 students, he takes naps the most frequently. Lee is 5'4", tying with Takiyo for the shortest male character.

Parisu Minaki - Ultimate Prosecutor
Parisu is formidable and well-composed, both in the courtroom and outside of it. His drive for pursuing justice comes from when someone in his family had been found guilty for a crime they did not commit. While one might think that's more reason to become a defense attorney rather than a prosecutor, Parisu considers it more effective to focus on finding the real guilty party. From that day onwards, Parisu took it upon himself to study hard in school, chasing the idea of instilling 'proper justice' back into the court system. His tireless efforts towards becoming a prosecutor earned him the notice of Hope's Peak Academy, as well as a few rivals along the way. Parisu has one in particular that he tends to face in court, and the duo have a rather heated rivalry. He isn’t afraid to say what needs to be said, and is relentless when pursuing the truth. The prosecutor isn't without a hidden weakness, however. He will not admit it to anyone, but he loves sweets. Parisu is 5'6".

Fever Virtue - Ultimate Architect
Fever is every bit the delinquent archetype he appears to be, and he likes it that way. He swears often and tends to break the rules he disagrees with. ...Which is most of them. Fever was a problem child at school throughout his life, consistently interrupting the class and getting detention or suspended. During one of those suspensions, he encountered some construction workers building a house. Seeing how interested Fever was, the lead architect went against safety regulations and allowed Fever to observe the process, telling him about the job. Since that day, Fever would draw floor plans or building designs on his tests and notes in school. He took wood-shop and AutoCAD electives, which became his best classes, or at least the only classes he wouldn’t completely fail. Unfortunately, those two classes weren't enough to boost his overall grades. Though Fever was set to flunk out, Hope’s Peak Academy scouted him for his talent after the lead architect Fever met some time ago used and credit Fever for one of his designs. He jumped on the chance and he switched schools, where he could focus on classes more suited to him. He keeps a notebook on him to sketch floor plans of most, if not all, buildings and areas he goes to, no matter where or how difficult. Any pieces of interior decoration that interest to him usually end up in his notebooks too. People are often surprised that such brilliant designs come from someone with a rough attitude like his. Fever is 5’9”.

Pearce Ritari - Ultimate Computer Technician
Pearce's talent comes from his favorite hobby of taking apart computers and putting them back together again. He tends to leave random pieces and parts scattered around while doing this, which can be a hazard to someone as klutzy as him. Despite this, he's also the only one who knows exactly where any given part has been left, so he proudly proclaims his system of doing things works. (Unfortunately this doesn't make up for his atrocious handwriting.) Pearce is relaxed and amiable most of the time, and tends to put on a more optimistic face than he sometimes feels. By Pearce's own admission, he's technically not very good at fixing or programming machines, as he's relied solely on the internet for guides in the past. Nevertheless, Hope's Peak Academy took interest in his resourcefulness and broad knowledge of fixing various problems. Pearce is 5'10", tying with Xander for the tallest male character.

Vasco Cartier - Ultimate Navigator
Living in Hawaii, Vasco spent a lot of his early childhood outdoors, and he picked up a love for sailing and the ocean from his grandparents. Not much changed over the next few years, though his distaste for tourists grew as more and more of them came to the island. Vasco taught himself more survival skills, including how to find his way with methods other than a compass. Soon he was taking sailing trips with family and neighbors, acting as their navigator, and he became even more interested in traveling. This translated to Vasco stubbornly brushing off school and other responsibilities in favor of learning more hands-on skills and having more life experiences. He intended to settle down and focus on education later, but he rarely returned home in his teenage years as he offered his talent to ships of all kinds that sailed for many different purposes. Still, a chance encounter with a talent scouter while at a port in the contiguous United States led to Vasco enrolling in Hope's Peak Academy, and though he was absent from classes more often than not, he was interested in learning what the school could teach him and his classmates-turned-friends. In his final year of school, he was away on a trip when a natural disaster struck his home state. He changed since that day, and very few have seen him since then. Vasco is 5'8".

Skyler Wilson - Ultimate Swordsman
Skyler's talent began when he enrolled in his grandfather's dojo. Wanting to make his grandfather proud and learn something unique, Skyler steadily worked at learning how to use and maintain different kinds of swords. His work was rewarded and he became one of the top students at the dojo. Hope's Peak Academy took note of this and he was soon enrolled. His grandfather has a strict (and long) list of moral codes for his students to follow, including to never attack an unarmed person, and Skyler follows these codes to the letter. He can stay calm better than most, and demonstrates kindness to everyone he can, but if he's pushed far enough, he will get aggressive and speak his mind. He refrains from attacking anyone first and hates the sight of blood, only tending to attack back in self-defense or retaliation if it's absolutely necessary. The sword Skyler normally carries is called an arming sword. Skyler is 5'7".

Takiyo Kubo - Ultimate Origamist
Takiyo's love of origami is apparent from the moment you set eyes on him. His own creations are all over him. Be careful about bringing that up around him, though, as Takiyo is easily irritated and his default state is usually defensive, with a bit of a persecution complex due to being bullied for his hobby in the past, specifically by boys. But for all of Takiyo's complaints and grumpiness, he refuses to swear or resort to violence. Origami is his method of stress relief and he tends to stay up late to craft new pieces. Takiyo grew up as the only boy out of 5 sisters and is the third oldest child. Both his sisters and his friends call him "Taki". His father is a strict workaholic who wanted Takiyo to inherit the family's computer software company (Kubo Technologies). But when his oldest sister taught him origami, he pursued that, rather than obey his father’s wishes. This caused the already serious rift between father and son to grow deeper, so as soon as he had the money to do so, Takiyo ran away from home to live out his dream away from his dad’s scrutiny. He regrets leaving his sisters behind, and gets very emotional when he thinks of them. He is very closed off about his family and home life. Takiyo's memories of his father means he refused to learn anything about technology purely out of spite and as a result, he is very bad with computers. Similar to Parisu, Takiyo has a sweet tooth but adamantly denies this. Takiyo is 5'4", tying with Lee for the shortest male character.

Thea Fintero - Ultimate Screenwriter
Few know the price of a small income and big aspirations better than Thea. She and her family lived paycheck to paycheck, but she was determined to become a screenwriter in Hollywood someday. For someone with no money and no connections, the only way forward (and upwards) was by staring at the bottom. This meant working in craft services as soon as she was of legal age and networking at every single opportunity. Not many sets would take her on, but this didn't deter her. Thea had a clear passion and talent for writing, and she kept working on that talent, going on to win top prize at a major writing contest. This ended up getting her noticed by Hope's Peak Academy, and she was hooked by the academy's promise of success for graduating students, but once enrolled she frequently passed up classes in favor of more work opportunities. All-nighters and the taste of black coffee became increasingly familiar. Thea's lack of career progress despite both her talent and ability irks her. There's little room for such outward bitterness in the film industry, however, so it seems few ever get to see her true feelings about it all. Thea's laid-back demeanor and clever tongue are testaments to her dedication to push forward in life, no matter what. Her silver necklace was a gift from her late mother after she enrolled into college. Thea is 5’6”.

Lynn Sinclair - Ultimate Public Speaker
Lynn's status as the Ultimate Public Speaker is the culmination of her hard work both academically and otherwise. She takes her studies and other responsibilities seriously, keeping a perfect GPA even in the most taxing classes. Outside of classes, Lynn keeps herself equally busy. She holds a part-time job at the same university she currently attends (the logo of which can be seen on her vest), volunteers at soup kitchens, and often attends local protests. Lynn herself doesn't think much of the burdens of all the extracurricular activities. To her, they're not just beneficial to others, but they also prove her capability and makes her a better role model for her younger brother and others. Her younger brother is her main reason for striving for perfection, or at least the appearance of it. Lynn's parents view her as their pride and joy, although to many, it does feel as though she's another thing for them to flaunt, just like their wealth and high standing. It's little wonder that Hope's Peak Academy sought out Lynn so quickly in her high school years. Although Lynn won't speak her thoughts on that, she does use the attention and platform she has to speak to various issues like human rights or pass the microphone to those who need their voices to be heard. Motivating and informing those who are willing to learn are her greatest passions. Lynn often takes charge in groups (both for projects and in general) as it comes naturally to her. In these situations, she has a tendency to be bossy without realizing it, which often leads to a very split opinion on her. She works hard to try and get along with everyone, but believes that it's not possible to achieve the most important things without some consequences. No person can get along with everyone, after all, and lazy or arrogant people are the hardest for her to connect with. Lynn is 5'3".

Hylia Meldione - Ultimate Cosplayer
Hylia loves her every part of the cosplay process, from the concept sketch to the last touches. Being able to recreate outfits from her favorite media is how she demonstrates her love for it, and she is certainly proud of what she makes. While Hylia does make the cosplays mostly for herself, she likes to share them with both her sister and friends as well, and the quality of her cosplays earned her the title of Ultimate Cosplayer. It was actually her older sister who got her into going to conventions with her cosplays, as a means of getting the somewhat-introverted Hylia out of her shell. She is very practiced at keeping her emotions in check after being shut out by a former group of friends many years ago, an event that led to her isolating herself for months. Few people have seen her cry, and anger is a rarity, so many people think she's naturally an up-beat person. While she made more friends since then, she's cautious not get hurt the same way. Hylia likes to be in control by being the one in the know, though she doesn't reveal much of her own life. For similar reasons, Hylia is scared of being wrong, so she'll only come forward with information if she's sure about its accuracy. These traits help her plan surprises for people to show appreciation for them. When she needs a break to recharge her social and emotional batteries, she will busy herself with tasks that give her space away from others. She likes to take walks in nature or work on cosplay by herself. Hylia is 5'5".

Rahmani Thanaa - Ultimate Quilter
Known as 'Rahma' or 'Rahrah' to her friends. Rahmani took up sewing, stitching, and designing quilts after learning the skill from a close friend, and this hobby is both a way to express herself and also ensure she never forgets her friend. Rahmani places higher value on her friends than she does her family, as while she acknowledges her parents, she has a rough relationship with them. When it comes to friendships and relationships, Rahmani comes across as very wise, friendly, and open to others, but as people start to get more comfortable around her, she becomes more strict and egotistic about others. She means well, though she isn’t aware of her own arrogance. Rahmani does hold grudges easily and gets tends to get jealous faster than most. With enough time and attention from both parties, it's possible to keep a healthy relationship, but the ones that don't make it are usually villainized by her. Rahmani likes to wake up early and focus on her work, and she'll go to extreme lengths to see a project through. While her own clothes are "plain", in her own words, the quality is extremely high. Rahmani is 5'7" and the tallest female character.

Kikuko Wolfe - Ultimate Funny Man
Despite all the online content that features her, Kikuko is not a person many can say they know well. 99% of what she says is a bit or a set-up to a punchline that she can't wait to present to her audience, and it's hard to get a laugh by being vulnerable. Kikuko started her career in comedy as most do nowadays- in middle school, using YouTube. Those early years of content were primarily gaming videos, but as her editing skills got better, she shifted into doing improv with whatever crazy ideas came to mind. She tends to speak or act first, then ask questions afterwards, which suits her content very well. To date, Kikuko's best performing video series is "Wormin' Around". The two worm on a string accessories in her hair are a reference to those videos and Kikuko herself claims they are the secret to her success. Her reputation and popularity online were more than enough to catch the attention of Hope's Peak Academy's scouting division and she quickly accepted. As a result the production costs on her videos skyrocketed, but so too did the views. Her sleep schedule has always been something of a mystery, as she goes to bed at admittedly ridiculous hours of the night, but most of her videos take place during daytime. These late hours are also the only time she'll talk about her real feelings with friends. Kikuko's 'Wikitubia' page lists various trivia about her, including that she's a college dropout and has a massive collection of different colored socks. Kikuko is 5 feet tall, the shortest female character.

Starlight Chia - Ultimate Matchmaker
Most expect someone with the title of Ultimate Matchmaker to be outgoing and flirty, but Starlight is quiet and shy around new people. She can come across as distant because she has a hard time interacting with people she hasn't gotten to know. Those that do get to know her find her to be a kind person who tries her best to help others whenever she can, either by giving advice or just offering a listening ear. Starlight grew up with her parents and one older brother, but she isn't especially close to any of them, as her parents fought often and never really got along with her brother. When she's at home, she is usually in her room, watching or reading things in the romance genre, which is how she first experienced things about relationships and dates. She developed a skill in seeing the chemistry between people and what made a date successful or not. This ended up benefiting her in a way she never imagined, as in junior high school she ended up helping one of her friends get a date with their crush. She advised her friend to write a love letter to him, which to her surprise went extremely well and the two became a couple. After the successful match, rumors began to spread through the school, and soon Starlight began getting match requests from other students and even some teachers. She was very hesitant about getting involved with so many students she didn't know, but one of her friends accepted the requests on her behalf. Not wanting to disappoint anyone, she went through every single match expecting things to end in disaster. Then the opposite happened. Seeing how many people were happy with the results of her efforts, Starlight realized how much she enjoyed helping others find love, and set up "Cupidstar's Matchmaking Services" officially. It wasn't long before she was scouted for Hope's Peak Academy due to her talents, and her matchmaking services followed her there. Starlight herself began to wonder what love really felt like, as she never felt the same kind of romantic love as those around her. She fears this information getting out, as it may ruin her matchmaker reputation. The thought caused her a lot of anxiety and though she tried to ignore the problem, she eventually decided to match herself with a guy she thought was really cute, but the date was a failure. Starlight begged the boy to never tell anyone and then helped him get a better match with someone else. He accepted, keeping the event a secret. Starlight continued to try dating, but it never panned out, and so she gave up and kept the failed dates a secret. Starlight is 5’4”.

Camellia Linden - Ultimate Herbalist
Camellia's talent seems like a given, as her mother is a florist and her father is a gardener, and she has an inherent love for the outdoors, nature, gardening, and helping others. She was the second oldest of three children until middle school, when her old brother passed away. Her parents actively try to avoid discussing the loss since that day, which Camellia disagrees with, seeing how badly it hurts them and the family's relationships as a whole. She believes in being honest with everyone, in both thoughts and and that others should also be more honest. Camellia generally has a sunny disposition, especially when she’s gardening. However, she “wilts” when stuck inside for too long. She knows a lot about different kinds of plants and flowers and loves to make tea from what she harvests, especially chamomile. As a young child, she accidentally consumed a poisonous plant. The aftereffects leave her with a somewhat weak constitution and she tires easily. Being in the sun so much and the manual labor of caring for plants has helped her physical health improve. Since (or perhaps because of) that day, she took up studying both plants and fruits in order to learn more about herbalism. Some people are skeptical about her or her talent, because herbalism is an alternative medicine. Coupled with the fact that she is blonde, some have the tendency to think she’s unintelligent, especially when compared to her friends. Camellia works hard both in and out of the classroom to prove her skills to both herself and others. She wishes to stand on equal footing with her friends. When she isn't busy with her hobbies or classes, Camellia frequently checks in with her friends and family to look for ways to help and make sure they are doing okay. She enjoys reading, and likes to decorate her notes with sketches of flowers and plants she comes across. Camellia is 5'2".

Alex Yang - Ultimate Doctor
Short for “Alexander”, Alex prefers going by Alex as they felt more comfortable with being nonbinary. They are an only child to two doctors but haven't talked to them about their identity, and are third generation Chinese-American since their grandparents moved to the United States. Alex was praised as a child for being intelligent, quiet, and mature for their age. They did well in school, earning especially good grades in science classes, although they aren’t particularly fond of reading for academics or for pleasure. As with most “mature for their age” kids, Alex was pretty isolated from others and had a hard time making friends, especially due to their parents being pretty rich and well-known in their field. Though Alex's family hasn't struggled for money in recent years, Alex's parents and grandparents suffered for success and overworked in the medical field just to get to this point, and as such Alex is hesitant to rely upon their family's hard work or complain about difficulties in their life. They followed in their parents footsteps not for the financial security but to help people. When Hope's Peak Academy came around with an offer for Alex, they initially turned down the academy for the reason that they didn't really want the fame, nor could they officially be considered a doctor without a license yet. Hope's Peak refused to rescind their offer, pointing out that Alex could learn a lot from the academy's classes, and eventually Alex accepted. It was around this time that they started having to deal with stereotypical comments from people about Alex being yet another Asian-Americans going into STEM careers. When the advice from their parents for dealing with such comments was for Alex to keep their head down and work hard, and let success be the response to such comments, Alex turned away from them. The hardships continued as Alex was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and experienced firsthand the horrors of the country's healthcare system. They were instructed to be professional and keep quiet to avoid being kicked out of the practice, yet Alex was at odds with the wrongs of the system on behalf of those that were being failed by it. After graduating and moving on to university for a medical license, the safety and trust of a patient became Alex's top priority, even if it meant they were growing distant from their family and disheartened by American healthcare. Despite this, they still want to be acknowledged by (and have the approval of) their parents, even if they won't admit it. Nonetheless, Alex is fairly grounded and serious, especially when it comes to their area of expertise. They only wear a doctor's coat when it is important and find most fictional medical shows to be ridiculous. They're not used to being complimented, never expecting praise or idolization, and will offer a hesitant 'thank you' in return. Alex is 5'7".
