[7:43 AM] S: why did I decide to go to grad school again??
[7:43 AM] S: too many fucking statistics involved in this degree
Molly (who had just been awoken by the buzzing) groaned and tapped out a response.
[7:47 AM] M: idk, you’re the one who said some shit about TS research and growing scientific knowledge
[7:47 AM] M: why are you up so early?
[7:47 AM] M: isn’t it like 4 where you are?
[7:50 AM] S: technically it’s almost 5
“Molls, it’s the asscrack of dawn, go back to sleep,” Arthur groaned beside her. Molly rolled her eyes, but smiled.
“Just because it stays dark later doesn’t make 8 AM the asscrack of dawn, love,” she joked, then snapped her fingers. She rustled her fingers through his hair, climbed out of her bed, and padded over to the kitchen. Molly, for all the texting pranks she had pulled over the years, hated texting, and decided to give Sirius a call.
“Jesus, hup , Molly, give me some warning before you call,” Sirius answered in a hushed voice.
“Why are we whispering?” Molly asked.
“Because Remus is here, and I don’t want to wake him up,” Sirius explained.
“Gotcha,” Molly replied with a wiggle of her nose.
“I, hup, I’m going to ask him today,” Sirius began, “to move in, I mean! Not to get married or anything.” Molly could hear his voice raise in pitch. She laughed.
“About damn time, you guys literally go to the same school.”
“Also, um, I’ve gotta tell you something,” Sirius said nervously, “I’m, hup, I’m not going back to camp this summer.”
“WHAT?” Molly exclaimed, bewildered, “Sirius that is insane, camp is like your home, you’ve told me yourself,”
“I know,” Sirius replied, “but I talked to Gideon last summer and he really got me thinking. I’m 23, I’m getting my masters, I have responsibilities, I can’t do round the clock work for minimum wage out of the good of my heart anymore. I have expertise and if LAT wants to keep its counselors they have to start paying fairly.”
“But what about the kids, Sirius?” Molly whined.
“Molly, be serious. There’s so much pressure on disabled adults to be like this role model, to give back, to help the families, but no one ever wants to help us when we need it, no one ever values our contributions. You don’t just magically stop needing support when you hit your 18th birthday, and you know that,” Sirius sighed, “You don’t have to stop working at camp, I just can’t give up 6 weeks of summer for pennies anymore.” This time, Molly sighed.
“I get it, I just…I don’t know. Camp will be different with you not there,” Molly exhaled with a huff, “How are we going to keep up the prank war?” Sirius laughed.
“I think at this point the prank war is technically at a truce, considering the main combatants are sleeping with each other.” Molly squeaked in a way that could have passed as a tic, if Sirius wasn’t listening closely enough.
“Haha, definitely!,” Molly squeaked again. She heard the bed in the other room creak as Arthur stood and cracked his back. He shuffled into the kitchen like a sleepy panda bear, rubbing his eyes. He wrapped his arm around Molly’s waist and plopped his chin on top of her head.
“Molly, baby, you are being so loud, please come back to bed,” Arthur mumbled dreamily.
“Molly??” Sirius squealed, “Who is that? MOLLY?”
“Arthur,” Molly breathed, hand over the receiver, “Please give me five more minutes, I will be right back and I will try to be quieter,”
“Ok,” Arthur sighed. He kissed her gently on the forehead and squeezed her hand before leaving with a yawn.
“MOLLY CHRISTINE PREWETT WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?” Sirius’s hushed voice streamed from the phone, tinny and shrill. She could hear the smile breaking his face in his voice.
“Sirius, Arthur is the first good guy I have dated in my LIFE and I do NOT want you to ruin this for me, so this is what’s going to happen: I am going to hang up the phone, you are going to put on your big boy pants and talk to Remus, I am going to go back to bed and be spooned by my boyfriend, and I will talk to you at a more reasonable hour, got it?” Molly said firmly.
“Good for you!” Sirius laughed, “I’ll tell you how it goes tonight, ok?”
“Ok. Talk to you later, bye.” Molly hung up and shook her head jerkily. She went back to the bedroom, got into bed, and curled up under the duvet next to Arthur.
“What was that about?” Arthur said softly.
“Sirius is finally asking Remus to move in with him,” Molly replied.
“Well, Remus is asking him to move in with him today, so we’ll see how that goes,” Arthur yawned and nuzzled his nose into her frizzy red curls. Molly smiled and wiggled closer.
