After a week, a steady routine was formed.
At morning an alarm is set at 7:00 AM, that’s when Shen Yuan and the kids will wake up. The kids were luckily light sleepers so it wasn’t a problem to wake them up.
(“Good morning Yuan-ge!”
”Morning. Did you sleep well?”
”Yeah.”)
After they’re waken up, Shen Yuan will order them to get dressed while he waited outside of the room (shen jiu once again refused to change while he was in the room and it’s only been a week so no one was that comfortable yet anyways).
While he did so he prepared breakfast of egg and sausage (shen yuans culinary knowledge was really limited to noodles…) and either orange juice or milk. Not Shen Yuan’s favorite but it seemed to be the kid’s favorite. Easy points so he wasn’t complaining! (look he’ll start learning to make more better and nutritious meals once everything was settled down officially).
The kids would eat (one kids eats while the other makes a mess, are 2 year olds this messy? “Ah, Xiao-jiu you have something here. Let me help”) and Shen Yuan would go over what more he needs.
So far it went like this:
Have
- Clothes
- Food
- Toys
What he needs
- A new bed
- Supplies to baby proof the house (baby gate, electrical outlet, safety bumper, etc.)
- Some new decorations (children need color don’t they?)
Shen Yuan was planning to go to a furniture store next weekend and find a bed he finds most comfortable. The kids basically own his bed now and he suspected that Shen Jiu would throw a fit if he moved them.
Shen Jiu didn’t seem like a trouble baby, mostly just sticking close to Yue Qi and not speaking a word since he got here (worrisome but Yue Qi said that it was normal for him) but he couldn’t be too careful, so the best logical choice is to block him out of dangerous areas for toddlers. He makes a note to online order them later.
Shen Yuan didn’t worry too much on rooms, since he actually had plenty of spare rooms (wow it suddenly felt very empty in home) so he can move in another easily enough. There was a mess of boxes near his original room and in his new room. It was down the hallway so he should still should be able to hear them both.
After the kids are done, Shen Yuan will let them watch TV in the living room. They all sat a (smaller than the one in the room, but can fit all of them) couch while Shen Yuan was on his phone. The System wasn’t the biggest fan of this and insisted they do an activity together. Shen Yuan insisted Shen Jiu wouldn’t even go along with it.
There was this weird cartoon show that they loved for some reason. It was about a Cat and a Dog with special powers who save the world from harm or something. They first watched it when Shen Yuan introduced what a TV was.
(“And then Dog beat him and saved Cat!”
”That’s nice.”
”Mhm.”)
After an hour Shen Yuan would turn the TV off and bring out the toys to let Yue Qi and Shen Jiu play. They recently started playing as the Cat and Dog from the show. It was a cute he had to admit.
Shen Yuan would make a quick lunch at 12:00 PM. Usually something small since the kids were still getting used to more food. They still looked rather malnourished. Shen Yuan hoped the sandwiches are helping, and telling by the coins they are.
The playing resumed while Shen Yuan was occasionally reading. But he’s starting to enjoy watching the kids play. They come up with rather ridiculous stories. It’s also a chance to see on how exactly Yue Qi interacts with Shen Jiu. Shen Yuan will even see him laughing!
Dinner time will come and he starts to prepare. He mostly made noodles but he’s starting to make chicken soup. He made sure it had plenty of carrots since Shen Jiu rather enjoyed them that he would even take some out of Yue Qi’s plate.
Dinner would pass by with Yue Qi recounting everything they did in such excitement Shen Yuan would think they went to an amusement park. Those moments were nice, and he felt accomplished of something. He’s been feeling that lately.
Finally, they would watch TV for the rest of the afternoon. Shen Yuan mostly put educational shows but he would sometimes cave in the demands of the show they loved. Like now.
Right now the ending credits were being played and Shen Yuan realized it was their bed time. When he turned to see the kids he was surprised to see them already asleep. Shen Jiu was laying on Yue Qi’s lap while Yue Qi had his head down in a way that would guarantee a sore neck.

… Yeah it was cute.
After getting the kids to bed (maybe he needs to work out) he went to lay down on the couch. As he looked up at the ceiling, he wondered if this is how it’s going to be from now on. It wasn’t bad, but something lacked.
Shen Yuan didn’t find an answer and promptly fell asleep.
