blink blearily trying to get my bearings. “Stand up kid, you have stuff to be doing.” I startle as I’m hauled off the ground by my hands. In front of me is a boy, with a sharp grin on his face.
“Good luck!” Then he’s gone. What . “Heads up!” I duck as some sort of blunt object is chucked at my head. “Good morning sleeping beauty,” A girl says in the middle of a fight with The Goose. “What is going on?” I ask. “Oh you know. Fighting ancient deities, meeting the Titans that blessed us.” I recognize the girl as Eris, the person who brought me to Nyx. Speaking of that, how did I get here?
I summon my bo staff as Quiver lunges at me, sword in hand. As much as I hate it I call back to my old training as I fight. Cross strike, poke… Quiver is on the ground before five minutes. Sam moves on from her fight with Marz and comes over to me.
“Hey! You’re the one who thought it’d be cool to take over my body!” I exclaim. Sam spreads her arms out in a grand gesture, bowing slightly. “That’s me.” I hold my staff out in a threatening manner but she only smirks and holds out her own staff.
I strike first, taking the offensive. I’m fast but she’s faster, clearly having way more training than whatever I got. My arms rattle as I block a strike from her. “What are you?” I ask, trying my best to fend her off. “A god.” Sam places a well placed kick to my stomach and I stumble back.
“About time you woke up,” Marz says, standing close by. “Listen, that was not on my list of things to do.” I reply, striking Tarquin across the face, somehow knocking him out. Marz continues her fight with Jabez and I make my way over to Artemis. She’s completely out of arrows and has resulted to hand-to-hand combat.
During a brief pause I fill her quiver with arrows. She spares me a glance before continuing her fight. I stay behind the other three, helping them out where it’s necessary. It's not long before there’s a lull in the fight, everyone going back to the side they started on.
“I’ll give you the option again. Stop fighting, lend me your powers or-” Sam is interrupted by the boy from before clamping a hand over her mouth. “Or you guys can run and live another day!” He says cheerily. We turn to each other and nod. Then we turn and run, jumping over to the next roof.
The villains follow, their footsteps loud. We only make it to the next building over before The Goose lunges forward and tries to grapple with me. I turn to strike, meaning to summon my bat, only to realize it was a knife instead. I freeze, horrified. He lets out a choked gasp before he falls to the ground.
I back up slowly, my hands trembling uncontrollably. No, no, no, no… “Didn’t know you had that in you.” Sam was back, I chose to ignore her. Run kid. We’ll help out later, it's fine . A voice that’s not my own sounds out in my head. As if hearing the same thing Eris grabs my arm and we take off again.
This time instead of just running away, Eris hotwires a car. We waste no time with buckling and Eris slams on the pedal. I slump down in my seat. I just killed a man .
