Chapter Text

In the back of blossom village on a small hill laid the psychic gym whose leader was a 23 year old man named Hyungu. He was always fascinated by psychic Pokémon, and three years ago he took the position as the leader over from his mother who now lived in a small house in the woods besides the village. Even though Hyungu was still young he trained his Pokémon really well so not many manage to get the psychic badge. But most of the time Hyungu would sit in the back of his gym and read until he gets called over by one of his trainers. During the winter only a few challenger would come to the village to earn his badge so he can often sit in silence and read one of the many books he owns. He just read ‘The little prince’ when suddenly his door swung open. “Hyunguuuuu~”

When Hyungu turned around he saw his childhood friend walking towards him. “Youngjo hyung, why didn’t you tell me that you would stop by today?” he asked confused.

“I did sent you a message, you just didn’t read it! How can you just ignore me?” Youngjo said with an offended expression. Hyungu smiled at that. His friend was always a bit dramatic when it came to people not paying attention to him. He realized that the moment he met the other when he was only 9 years old.

Shortly after Hyungu turned 9 his mother told him that they would need to move to the back of the region into a small village called Blossom village. She explained to him how she got offered a job as the psychic gym leader, so a move was inevitable. Hyungu was ok with the move the moment she said it was essential. He wasn’t really the most outgoing child, so he hadn’t any good friends in the city they lived in at that time. Most kids thought he was weird because he wouldn’t talk that much and would mostly sitting in the back reading one of his many books. He didn’t thought it would be any different in the new village.

The day they moved was really hectic and his mother was constantly running around between their new house and the gym to put things in place. At noon Hyungu decided to sneaked out of the house to seek for some place where he could read until he had to head back inside. While walking through the village he saw a few older people but also some children who were running around playing. His Furret was walking besides him when suddenly a child stopped in front of him.

“Hello I’m Dongmyeong! Who are you? Did you move here? How old are you? Can I pet your Furret?” The boy called Dongmyeong asked hastily before sitting down on the ground petting his Furret as soon as he saw Hyungu nodding his head. Hyungu was surprised by the boy talking to him without knowing who he was. Nobody ever did that when he lived back in the city. He smiled at the smiling boy “Hello Dongmyeong. I’m Hyungu and yes, I just moved here. Why are you running around alone?” He asked worried, it was already late when he went out and he always heard how dangerous it is to walk around alone when you’re still young. Even though he himself wasn’t the best at staying inside when it gets dark outside.

“I’m not alone, Plusle is with me!” Dongmyeong said pouting while pointing at the Pokemon besides him.

Hyungu smiled at the smaller boy and wanted to continue convincing him to go back home when suddenly another voice joined their conversation. “Dongmyeong! Your father was searching for you, what are you doing out here so late?”

When Hyungu turned around he saw a taller boy walking towards them. He had a slight smile on his lips and looked a little bit older than he. Dongmyeong ran towards the boy and hugged him. “But Youngjo hyung I was already on my way back home but then I saw the cute Furret. How could I go home without petting it?!” Dongmyeong said with such a seriousness in his voice that it made Hyungu giggle which made the new boy turn toward him.

“And who are you?” Youngjo asked which startled Hyungu.

“Uhm, I’m Hyungu. I just moved here today.” He answered while fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. He wasn’t good at talking to others so the look the older gave him made him nervous.

“Dongmyeong go home ok? I bet your parents and Dongju are already waiting for you.” Youngjo put the smaller boy down who ran away towards what Hyungu thought was his house. The older then turned towards Hyungu. “So you moved here today? I’m Youngjo. How old are you?”

“I’m 9 years old.” Hyungu answered, and before he could continue talking the other boy started again. “I’m 12, so that means I’m your hyung. From today on you’re under my care!” Youngjo said before grabbing Hyungus hand and started walking towards a different direction.

“Wait uhm Youngjo hyung, I just wanted to find a quiet place to read.” Hyungu tried to argue, but the older boy wouldn’t let go of him. During their one hour walk Youngjo showed Hyungu all the different places in the village that would later become important in his life.

The last place Youngjo pulled Hyungu to was the small beach at the bottom of Blossom village. It was already late, and the moon and stars shimmered in the waves of the sea. They sat in silence for a while before the older boy started talking. “You know, I really like the moon. I’m here almost every night to look at it and think about all the things I can’t get out of my head. No matte how exhausting the day was, and no matter how frustrated I am again because I just can’t get something right, the moment I’m here everything seems better. As if the moon is giving me strength to get through everything. Well almost everything, sometimes the moon is the cause I can’t sleep and that’s annoying, but over all I still like the moon.” Youngjo started laughing at the end of his explanation.

Hyungu looked at the older boy and for the first time since he met him Youngjo looked calm. “You’re right, the moon is pretty. But I think I like the cherry blossom tree more. It looks really beautiful.”

“You like the cherry blossom tree? I need to bring you to Yonghoon hyung then, he can tell you all the legends about it! And tomorrow I’m gonna show you my favorite place in the forest. I only showed it to Hwanwoong until now, but because you’re my new friend I need to show it to you too!” The older continued talking aimlessly while Hyungu just listened to the stories his first friends tells him about.

“A penny for your thoughts?”

Hyungu looked up and saw Youngjo standing right in front of him. “I just thought about the day I moved here.” He paused for a moment before looking at Youngjo with a smirk on his face. “You really haven’t changed, still way too confident about yourself.”

Youngjo put his hand on his chest, looking offended. “Too confident? How can you say that about me?”

“Are you telling this to me or to your reflection behind me?” Hyungu answered jokingly and earned a hit on his shoulder for that.

“You’re one to talk, you were such a sweet and polite child and now only the ‘and’ is left. You’re just as weird as the other kids. You’re way too often near Yonghoon hyung, he corrupted my sweet and innocent childhood friend.” The older continued teasing Hyungu.

Hyungu tried to hit the older back, but his hit was dodged. “As if you’re not the leader of all the weirdness in our group hyung.”

“And I’m proud of it!” Youngjo countered proudly which made Hyungu start laughing. “Come on, the others wanted to cook something, and I’m scared they will burn down the house. Don’t tell Yonghoon hyung but he’s not really good at keeping the kids out of trouble.”

On the way back they could already hear the screaming of their friends coming from inside the house they all shared. He really had a weird friend group, but he wouldn’t change it for anything.
