Chapter Text
“We didn’t think we’d see you this soon, Moony,” James whispered sadly as his brother fell into his arms.
“Give me my husband,” Sirius laughs as he pulls Remus into a hug. “You’re not supposed to be here, love. You shouldn’t be here so soon...”
“You guys died like, two hours ago!” Remus exclaimed as he slapped the back of James and Sirius’ heads. “Those two hours were hell!”
“Who knew we could still get hurt in death,” James mumbled.
“Hey, love,” Lily whispered sadly as she stood in front of Remus. “You okay?”
“I am now,” he whispered, pulling his sister into a tight hug. “I… I thought I was going to have to do everything on my own...”
“I’m so sorry, love...”
“It broke me,” he whispered with tears in his eyes. “I...”
“I know,” she whispered. “I saw, but you’re here now.”
“Welcome to the afterlife,” James shrugged. “I would give you a tour but we haven’t been here long, all we know is that dead people show up through the fireplace you fell through.”
“This is… so weird...”
“It really is,” Sirius laughed. “Well, are you guys ready?”
“No,” the Marauders answered with matching frowns.
“Me neither,” Sirius sighed. “But we don’t have much of a choice, so...”
“Let’s go,” Remus whispered with a slow nod. “Maybe we can find out how to be with Harry and watch him… continue to grow… I’m sorry-”
“Don’t apologize,” James sternly interrupted. “Don’t you dare apologize, we know you would have been there for him if you could be. He’s strong, he’ll… he’ll be okay.”
“He’ll be okay,” Lily agreed tearfully. “Well, until the very end?”
“Until the very end,” the Marauders agreed.
It's a good thing this Halloween was only a nightmare of Harry's imagination. When he woke up, his family had texted him that they were five minutes away from picking him up for dinner. I guess this Halloween was still one where the horrors were the decorations and stories.
