Chapter Text
You sighed as you stood outside the building staring down at your feet as you waited. You’d received a couple more dirty looks from random girls and caught Bakugo glaring again throughout your day. Now, you were waiting on Izuku to hurry up and finish talking to the career counselor so you two could grab some snacks and head to his house.
“Hey, Y/n, right?” Your thoughts were interrupted by a soft, feminine voice. You looked up to see a girl with short, tawny hair, with bangs. You’d never really spoken to her but you knew she was in your class.
“Oh, uh… yeah. That's me.” You fiddled with your fingers nervously. Was this about Bakugo? Or had you done something else to piss her off?
“Can I talk with you really quick? It's not anything bad, I just had a couple of questions.” You nodded after a moment, she seemed nice. Not nice enough for you to let your guard down, though. “Cool.. so some of us were wondering if something was going on between you and Bakugo? We’ve noticed you two... Exchanging glances throughout the day.” there it was.
“Oh, absolutely not. We aren’t even friends, really. Bakugo and I just don’t get along.” She didn’t seem hostile or mad about anything and you didn’t seem to remember her being in the group from earlier.
“Oh yeah, that makes more sense. You, Bakugo, and Midoriya were childhood friends, weren’t you?” An awkward smile appeared on your face. Saying you guys were ‘friends’ would be far-fetched. More like, forced playmates. Growing up though it was obvious Izuku admired Bakugo, always following him around after you three were introduced. You usually chose to hang out with Izuku away from Bakugo. Even when you were little his somewhat of a god complex was too much for you. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t admire Bakugo to at least a small degree, though. It was only natural.
“Uhm, yeah. Something like that.”
“It’s a shame how things turned out, huh?” You nodded assuming she was talking about Bakugos hatred toward you and Izuku. You looked behind the girl and saw Bakugo walking out of the gates with his friends behind him. When had he passed you guys? Oh god had he heard you guys talking about him? “Well, I’ll be on my way. I'll see you around, okay?” She walked away with a smile and a wave.
“Sounds good!” You waved back to her, your awkward smile not fading at all. As soon as she left you leaned against the wall going back to whatever you were doing beforehand.
“Y/n? Oh, there you are.” you picked your head up once again this time hearing the familiar voice of your best friend.
“Finally! Took you long enough.” You smiled a genuine smile this time. “I was withering away thinking about those snacks.”
“Well, I guess we’d better get going then. What were you thinking about doing once we get to my house? I have a new documentary about hero work I’ve been wanting to watch if you’re okay with that.”
“Izu I mean this with love but if I have to watch another All might documentary I'll throw myself off a building.” You chuckled as you two began to walk.
“It’s not just about Allmight, though!”
“Izu I refuse for your fanboy-ness to rub off on me.”
“It has Hawks in it!”
“..Ugh fine.”
“I knew that’d work.”
“Well, what can I say. I have a thing for blonds.”
“I think you just have a thing for people with potential. He only JUST broke the top 10. Same thing with Kamui, which, is kind of odd considering you can’t see his face when he’s working.. Does he even have a face?”
“It's not about his face, Izu, It’s about his energy.”
“Well, I guess that makes sense.”
“Hey, Izu, was there anything you wanted from this side?” You looked over only getting a glimpse of his curly green locks. You rolled your eyes and smiled when you didn’t receive muttering instead. You ended up just grabbing his usual and walked to the other side of the aisle to wait on him. “You’re not busting your brain over snacks, are you?”
“Was I taking that long?” He sighed looking over at you.
“No, but I could hear your muttering. It’s marvelous how you never realize you’re doing it till I point it out.” You had your usual smile on your face. “Now, c’mon I wanna watch that documentary.” You passed by him to the cashier's desk to pay and laughed slightly when you saw Izuku quickly grab a snack and rush to catch up with you. After you two paid you saw a familiar face. Bakugo was standing outside with one of his goons with a soda in his hand. You looked at your friend who had his usual nervous face on, “We can just wall right past him, right?”
“Haha, yeah.” Izukus eyes were glued ahead as he gripped the bag.
“Right.” You sighed and walked out the door, Bakugos goons looking right at you and Izuku.
“Well if it isn’t the freak and his little girlfriend.” The other one laughed at that but Bakugo just stood there glaring right at you, not even sparing Izuku a glance.
“We aren’t dating and he isn’t a freak. Stop being so insecure.” For some reason, you were getting much more pissed off at them than you normally did. Maybe it was because you had the decency to invite Bakugo to be friends and he had the nerve to just let his little friends be assholes. He could stare at you but he couldn't control his goons.
“Y/n, it’s fine. Let's just go.” Izuku placed his free hand on your shoulder trying to reassure you.
“No, as a matter of fact, It’s not. His quirk is literally the most useless thing I've ever seen but he has the nerve to insult you? It’s bullshit.” You huffed walking forward a little. “You guys are just insecure he actually has potential” You glared at the goons and continued to walk towards them. “And as for you, Bakugo.” You walked about a foot away from Bakugo not second-guessing where this sudden confidence came from. You lowered your voice and looked him dead in the eyes “You’re just as insecure as they are. You can glare and make fun of me and Izuku all you’d like but you are no better than us.” You knew he wouldn't do anything to seriously hurt you considering his whole career would go down the drain if he did. Also somewhere along the way, your finger was stabbing into his chest and he was… smiling? Which honestly flustered you a bit.
“No better than you? The most you’ll amount to is working at some shitty d-list hero agency making repairs for their already shitty gear.” He had gripped your hand that was poking into his chest and leaned in closer, only inches from your face. “Don’t ever compare yourself to me again, Shrapnel. I know you’re smarter than that.” He threw your hand to the side and leaned back with a smug look on his face. It took you a second for you to realize how red your face probably was and how many butterflies were in your stomach. You tore your eyes away from him after a couple of seconds and looked at the goons one more time before turning back to Izuku.
“Whatever.” You side-eyed Bakugo one more time before walking off with Izuku, a short sigh escaping your lips. What the fuck had just happened.
