Ooo This chapter! This was always going to happen, I think. Neither of them were ready to be bonded for life. Marcus is very much acting on survival instincts= do not rock the boat, keep to the rules to avoid rejection, whereas Neroon is on a thrive level of having his own long-time community, and so he does not understand Marcus's dilemma/empathize with him. Yet, Neroon is obsessive compulsive (anxiety) and appears to value that over Marcus. He may feel very hurt by Marcus's decisions and trapped in an affectionless bond, but Neroon is sort of doing this to himself. Neroon was likely never loved and therefore struggles with providing it, which makes me a bit sad for him, and sad for them both. (aka I am enjoying this thoroughly and enjoying studying their minds!!! Make no mistake, I love the push and pull fiction can provide between relationships. It's fascinating to watch!!!)
Though, Neroon had best get back in there before has to scrape Marcus off the kitchen floor as well.
Am excited to see what happens!! To see how this situation plays out. Hmmm. Perhaps Marcus will confess how much he is hurt, will go into his past and so Neroon shall at last realize that Marcus feels like he must do penance and therefore is having a hard time committing since that is what is secretly been driving his self-injury. (Or so I assume. Dunno. Guessing.) Neroon has a difficult battle ahead of him, or perhaps it shall be easier than they realize. Hmmm Oh! And in response to one of your responses: They're not insane thoughts, silly goose! They are quite nice thoughts. I thank you for sharing them in your beautiful stories. ^^ 💖 Thank you!!!
"This was always going to happen, I think. Neither of them were ready to be bonded for life." That is exactly how I envision. i think Neroon comes from a very rigid framework of duty and commitment. You don't make those decisions lightly. It is not necessarily about love or affection, but being fully honest. There is no private and public in his life. They are the same. And he has a hard time having to accommodate another's framework that diverges so much (if that makes sense).
"Neroon was likely never loved and therefore struggles with providing it,". I see it that way too. He struggles with sharing and giving. I think he hides behind rules and tradition sometimes because is easier. And this way he can say I did what I was suppose to do. The problem is that some oft the significance of those may be lost on Marcus.
I feel that Marcus also has a lot of trauma. And he needs to overcome this to fully commit to anyone. Even his thing with Susan is kind weird to me. It feels strangely like escapism.
They are not passionate in love, but Neroon has a lot of respect for Marcus. To him, he is brave and honorable with a clean heart (or so he thought). And in his weird minbari framing that is love. Or how love starts.
