Comment on Negotiator Ascendant

  1. I've often wondered what the Jedi meant to do with Anakin. They called him Qui-Gon's "ward" didn't they? I've thought maybe they'd send him to one of the corps, or make him a temple mechanic or pilot (though that's entirely too reasonable for the Jedi) which might have made him happiest, and then they'd be able to keep an eye on him. I've always been fond of the Naboo taking him in if the Jedi won't. But Windu being a control freak and taking him makes total sense.

Windu's motive for his visits raises a question I've seen addressed in fic before: is it actually illegal to be a darksider or a Sith? Or is doing whatever they want with anybody they think is Dark one of those extralegal Jedi prerogatives? Are the Jedi essentially the state religion with legal authority to hunt down the apostate? (Only if they want to, obviously, since they left Dooku alone for a long time.)

There I go philosophizing. But the question of what really happens to those 13 year olds sent to the Agricorps (can they leave at 18, or are they the Jedi's indentured servants forever?) has always intrigued me. I guess it depends where you decide the Jedi really fall on the moral spectrum.
