Comment on A Cabal of Paris

  1. I'm really impressed with Porthos here; he plays his part supporting Athos with the King very well, doesn't make any mistakes, and is quick and clever enough to pick up the thread and steer the king back onto the track they want him to follow, not veer off into wondering what their real reasons might be.

Athos really is such a romantic when it comes to the flittermouse!

    1. Ah, Porthos knows how to handle affaires de cœur, even pretend ones. I'm rather more impressed by Athos and his willingness to lie to the King just to do Aramis' mistress a favour. But we know he enjoys playing the discordian occasionally and throw himself into ludicrous schemes.

      1. It's not precisely lying, exactly, it's misdirection and letting the King arrive at wrong conclusions (and letting Porthos do all the "it's woman trouble, sire" direct speech) - all those Jesuit lessons on what is and is not technically lying that Aramis lectures them about are bearing fruit!

Athos wouldn't lie to the King but for Aramis, he's willing to stretch the truth a very long way :-)

        1. Athos never lies. Is this not the Gods' own truth?

//“I promise you, Sire, on my honour as a gentleman,” he said, “that we will do everything in our power to remove the obstacles that have been piled up between our friend and his lady.”//

          1. Verily, it is the truth! I hadn't even realised that I put the direct lies into Porthos' mouth and the misdirections into Athos' LOL

            1. That was unintentional? LOL no. The Musai have you in their gropey paws, you good, you good! ahahahah.

              1. Well that bit was written before Amazingness, the Musai were already sidling up to me, like Vladic to the Virgin!

                1. Yes I remember you were telling me about working on this when we met and uh... got slightly side-tracked..... *whistles innocently* But clearly the Musai were already match-making us and humping our brains in very synchronized ways (i.e. see my last canon-based gross Arathos fic with all the demonic references).

                  1. OMG the Musai were so good to us? They truly did gods' work. And clearly they were desperate to let the world know about the true nature of The Three Of Them.

        2. Well, I am flabbergasted! You're right, Porthos does all the direct lying. It was unconsciously done :D
