see, i think people think of dorian as being very out and proud bc he's a flirt. but he flirts pretty indiscriminately and even then he rarely references past partners by their gender. and yeah, he's very confident in his looks and his dress, but that doesn't mean he's also confident about his sexuality, you know? i just find it difficult to reconcile a dorian who grew up in tevinter in a heavily repressed family who was told for years to hide his homosexuality would be utterly brazenly confident about it in a place where he's already viewed with suspicion for being a tevinter mage. maybe with the inquisitor and his inner circle, but only once they become closer... which is game-compliant, i think. you don't know anything about dorian's sexuality beyond some mild flirting (which he does with both inquisitor genders) until you get his approval up pretty significantly. and even then, he doesn't tell you directly until he's under that pressure cooker sit with his father.
anyway!!! i had SO many feelings and opinions about dorian's personal quest, but it did make me kind of weepy the first time i went through it. i was really happy to write it with an inquisitor that wasn't worried about pulling punches when it came to dorian's protection. and i'm glad you enjoy the story! i started writing this as kind of a way to vent my frustration with the way inquisitors are made to respond in the game but it's very much grown into one of my favorite personal projects, so i'm always really happy to see anyone else enjoying it too! thank you very much for the kind review!
