This is absolutely amazing, both the plot and the characterization are fantastic. Alternate Universes are so common and delightful, but you’ve really done something unique with the notion of branching out from the original narrative, and the way everything in threaded together, the voices and the moments of humour and warmth amongst the anguish, the evocative scenes with such a strong visual effect. It’s a really gripping narrative from start to finish, and I’d read a whole book series about it.
I’m just so fascinated! And there are so many questions it bring up. The red man, and what happened to Granby, and poor Tharkay! The quote at the beggining of this chapter too, the quote at the beggining, did you mean it in relation to Josephine or Laurence too?
Anyway, thank you for writing, and for sharing the fic, it’s a small fandom but really amazing, and this is for sure a gem!
