So if this fic is set in a Kyoto/Florida equivalent of Caldera/Ba Sing Se, is there a language barrier? There's a reference to Azula learning how the people around her speak, but that could just be in terms of slang and colloquialisms and not an entire seperate language. Unless she already spoke it? Also regarding Azula and Iroh's offer of therapy; methinks Iroh could use a therapist himself or even a grief counsellor. Projecting Lu Ten's loss onto Zuko and then Zuko's loss onto Azula is not healthy.

yeah, something like that; i ultimately decided against it because like i said, attributing specific names and stuff isn't exactly my thing. originally i was going to work through a language barrier, with azula already having a fair grasp on english because of schooling, and working through getting rid of her accent/adjusting to typical speech. i don't think there's actually a gap here, but i left it somewhat open.
probably??? you're probably right??? i honestly don't think he's actually projected lu ten onto zuko (especially because he Left), regardless of how azula views it, but rather just azula onto zuko which Is a problem. also acknowledging that iroh hasn't seen either since they were kids and that he only ever grew close to one -- well, i can kind of see the protection thing happening more.
