Oh that was interesting to note about SHIELD’ cover up may have covered up Stane’s double dealing too and left Tony holding the blame for it. Not totally, because he did stop weapons production and went after terrorists using them to attack civilians… but enough for people out of the loop.
… I wonder if Hydra elements in SHIELD were trying to cover for Stane as well since there were some things that implied he worked with Hydra, whether Obidiah Stane in the MCU was Hydra or not…. Now you are making me question so many things about early MCU movies…
Yeah I dont know if it's true but it's a fun headcanon and it makes sense. Normal Everyday people wouldn't be privy to so much information and they would form theories based on only what they know. So yeah, everything Stane does is blamed on Tony because all they know of Stane is that he worked at SI and he died in a plane crash.
