  1. Oh, I love how you describe Dathomir! Everything is red and dust and stars. Gorgeous! And the quiet rustling as the siblings go about their evening is so sweet and heartbreaking. I almost had to hold my breath while I read this, not wanting to ruin the stillness. Great chapter! <3 <3 <3

    1. Yep, I’ve seen the canon Dathomir and it just doesn’t fit with both what I’ve seen of the Dathomirians and of what I believed the planet looked like. Cuz the Nightbrothers skin are varying shades of red, yellow and orange and the Nightsisters skin is pale. Their bodies are leaner more agile which fits with the whole predator thing. But since Dathomir is described as humid it doesn’t make sense that their noses are longer and pointy, or that their eyes aren’t more hooded. The larger flat noses are to taken in hot air whilst not breathing in any dust or sand (same with tattoine) while the eyes are hooded with thick eyelashes to protect the eyes from sand and small debris.

I imagine it to be more of a Mars type planet, but with swamps and rainforest. Dathomir would be humid planet with deserts and rivers and seas. Imagine Australia, the middle east and Southern Asia now slap them all together make it red/orange/yellow and *boom* Dathomir.

At first I didn’t know if I want Mother Talzin to appear and be all *rawr* I am your mother and ruling queen bow down to be me, you worthless pieces of scum. Eventually I decided to give the wild children a break and just let them sleep. :D

      1. Your insight into evolutionary traits of different people from varying climates is very enlightening. Truth be told, I never gave much thought to stuff like that, but you are absolutely right. Keep in mind that both the Nightsisters and later the Nightbrothers didn't evolve on Dathomir, though: they immigrated from other worlds. So that might explain why their physique doesn't add up to their environment. Also, from what I have seen of Dathomir - including the portions we see of it in Jedi: Fallen Order, it is a very diverse planet. The swampy, humid section is just where the Nightsisters live. There are definitely canyons, mountains and even the Blue Desert. Again, I simply love the way you portray the planet, however. You're doing a very good job! :D

        1. Why thank you for the compliment. I’ve always found it weird when reading a story and watching a movie and people that have been in an environment for thousands of years (which would be almost equal the amount of generation) and yet not one person has evolved to fit in the environment.

Yep, I understand Dathomir is not the original home of the Zabraks so it would take more time to evolve to the environment. I’ve kind thrown canon out the window here, cuz I’ve made like a whole backstory of the planet and the species and suddenly humans are involved and I was like *whaaa*. So from what I’ve made:

Iridonian Zabraks came to Dathomir to colonise, where a same portion of Rattatak had come like *20-30 years before* escaping pirate ships during a raid taking ships and flying to the closest planet for safety reasons unknown to me. The Rattataki then fought the Zabraks for some *10 years* before peace was found by two lovers from the two species and they began breeding. Of course, you’re probably asking where did the colour of the male Dathomirians skin come from and the markings. I don’t know yet but I’ll figure it out! I promise. :)

I’ll pull a little Earth and have different ‘subspecies’ living on Dathomir with different physical aspects and such. I see Maul and his village living in a kind of humid forest/swamp place, surrounded by deserts and canyons. So the village is pretty isolated by the dangerous terrain and animals living in said dangerous terrain.

Much of Dathomir would be a kind of desert, humid forest/swamp surrounded by mountain ranges with ridges and canyons. With lakes and rivers running through at random.

Another thing I would like to specify is that nightsisters, nightbrothers and the Dathomirians would be considered different (whilst still being the same if that makes sense). Nightsisters being the Witches of Dathomir, Nightbrothers being their slaves and Dathomirians being the Zabraks/others species that live away from the Nightsisters control.

Nightsisters have pale skin, silver/grey eyes. Nightbrothers have red/yellow/orange skin with brown/black markings and cranial horns, Dathomirians would be more human dark skin? Dark hair? Maybe horns too?

So sorry for the late reply, my household has had two cases of COVID and I’m the only one that hasn’t gotten it so I’m kinda caring for them and doing stuff. :) Thank you for reading and thank you for the feedback, I’ll find a way to explain that in the story or later in the series. :D
