First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to all the hardworking volunteers who make this site so awesome.
I've been having some trouble downloading HTML. Usually I can double-click on the HTML tab and the fic displays as HTML, then I copy and paste into my wordprocessor program. I usually do this to correct grammar, punctuation and spelling errors in the fics I want to keep for eons or at least until the computing industry suddenly decides to change things to something I can't afford.
Anywho... Lately I can't double-click on the HTML tag to get that. Instead I sometimes have to "download" it 20 times or more. Either I'm doing something wrong (figures), or something else is going on. Got any suggestions??
No idea if this is your problem, but have you checked your Downloads folder? Sometimes when I download as HTML, for no reason I can discern, it automatically saves a copy of the HTML file to my Downloads folder without ever displaying it in the tab. And every time you hit the button after that, it downloads another copy. Hope this helps!
No that's not what I mean. When I download it, yeah it throws a zillion copies in the downloads folder, but when I open the documents, it's all lines and blank pages and there's absolutely no story there.
As I said. Usually on the screen the story shifts from one form (not sure what programming language it's in) to HTML and then I copy and paste it into a word document. If I try to copy it the way it's on the screen, it displays in Word really wonky, which is why I try to download the HTML version.
As I pointed out. My purpose is simply to correct the grammar and punctuation that a lot of writers seem to either ignore (on purpose?) or from ignorance of proper grammar and punctuation. Makes it hard to read a story and lots of stories have really great plot ideas in them so I hate to pass them buy just because the writer never learned proper grammar. (Do schools even teach grammar any more?) This is not just a problem in USA. I notice British and Australian writers have the same problem. Now I'm starting to sound like my High School English teacher. Sigh...
