Ghirahim chapter!! Ghirahim chapter! Man, I love that freak.
And wow is this remarkably well written. I absolutely adore your prose - it flows so well and conjures such vivid imagery, and it always highlights details I never would have though of myself. Plus, with English being my second language, I've learned quite a bit of new vocabulary haha! I loved your use of "perfect, peerless sword" and the bit about "even a demon can dream." It's just fantastic writing, which I applaud you for because it can't be very easy to get into Ghirahim's mind!
It really feels like things Ghirahim himself would think of, how he's described using words like "perfect" and just really leaning into his vanity; and how he thinks himself so above the Sheikah, referring to them as dogs, and ultimately found their resolved silence after torture boring (chilling!!).
This is such a great look into whatever he was up to before Skyward Sword, and I love how well thought-out so many things are in this fic, but especially this chapter. Of course Hylia's seal would break in time... so why hasn't it? ("It should have been the first clue.") Plus, the reasoning behind why Ghirahim is so flamboyant and dramatic and emotional is just perfect and ultimately explains his sadistic personality quite well. ("He’d cultivated the emotions as a lesser replacement" are you KIDDING ME?? this is just phenomenal.)
And, as much as I love laughing at Ghirahim's antics, in the end he is a cruel, cunning, and sadistic villain, which this chapter does NOT let you forget. He's so casual about violence in general, hoping Zelda doesn't die from the fall because he has to kill her himself. And that part about the blood rite with the Sheikah is deeply unsettling.
Honestly this might be my favorite chapter so far - I can't wait to see Ghirahim make his way back into this fic!
Excellent! It's always lovely to hear my writing is appreciated, but it's extra nice to have usefully expanded someone's vocabulary, haha!
And I'm very glad you like my Ghirahim so much! Sometimes he can be really quite chilling, but the game can never seem to make up its mind about him, and I wanted to keep him as much as he appears in the game dialogue and actions as I could while still making him consistently as evil and sadistic as he ought to be. When I realised I could explain exactly why he's like that based on what I think he is, that was when a lot of things about him fell into place with a neat click.
You'll see him again, sooner or later, and I hope you enjoy his next appearance just as much! I certainly have fun writing them!
