Okay, so it seems like Gilbert has mob connections.
Wrangling a ton of kids isn't going to be easy, even if they want to graduate. And their motivations; Feliks wants to get out of school because he's afraid his boyfriend will dump him, Ivan and Natalya are immigrants, and presumably their sister is supporting them.
Gilbert is trying to be a good brother, but what he does doesn't help Ludwig because his idea of what helps is different from what Ludwig needs. It's a parallel!
Yeah, being in charge of a bunch of complicated teenagers who would rather be literally anywhere else really is going to be a challenge. One Ludwig will have to rise up to. But the others need to cooperate too, because, like you said, they have their own motivations and stakes in all of this.
It really is a parallel between Gilbert and Ludwig. Gilbert really needs to rethink his dynamic with Ludwig if he wants to get closer to him. (- ｡ – )
