Another chapter down! I'm catching up... slowly. I'll be there eventually.
Quite a bit to say about this chapter. You were right that this one feels almost like a canon episode. Everyone is perfectly in character, down to Alvin making that really unfortunate mistake. And everyone teasing him for it. The antics in general just so felt so real.
On the topic of Alvin's mistake, I think he may also be suffering from a little dyslexia. Can't blame the vision on that one. But then he also didn't even know what physics was so... understandable mistake if he's reading quickly.
Quick note, Eleanor's an absolute savage here. I've said it once, I've said it a million times. I have BARELY seen the 2015 show, but is she normally quite that snippy? I don't ever think of her having QUITE that much of a bite, but I could be wrong. She's absolutely wrecked Alvin a few times in this story so far. I actually love it, seeing that side of her, just curious. I thought MY version of Eleanor was comparatively out for blood.
There goes Alvin noticing Jeanette's smile and eyes again. Poor Simon and especially Britt are in for a drama-filled ordeal. It's gonna be so great to read once it finally has it. Jean and Alvin actually have believable chemistry here too. And by believable, Jeanette is super sweet and supportive, but they both also will get irritated with each other. Alvin for the first time has truly negative thoughts about Jean in this chapter. Previously, she called him a bully.
I have a feeling given context clues that Alvin is going to end up finding an interest in this physics class and it will only further spiral him into nerd-dom. Am I close? TELL ME I'm close lol. I can already tell that this physics professor is based on someone you knew/know in real life. Way too well described otherwise. Unless it's based on someone in the show?
You will! You’re making good progress! Thank you for all the compliments!
YESSS! I love when all 6 interact together and bounce off each other. It makes for a lot of antics and drama.
He’s not dyslexic, no. But he does read way too fast when excited and he tends to impulsively rush into things. He also stinks at spelling because silent letters tend to trip him up, thus Simon being surprised that Alvin knew psychics wasn’t spelled like SYKICKS.
SIMON: He equally stinks at grammar.
HAHAHA! Yes! That is 2015 Eleanor! She’s the heart of darkness to Theo’s heart of light. The early seasons didn’t showcase it as much, but she is snarky, spunky, full of life, and full of cutthroat remarks. She also has a bit of a chip on her shoulder from being ignored so much, which fuels her more savage comeback side.
HAHA! He is so fascinated with it! Isn’t he? I’m so glad you brought up this point. People who haven’t read my fics act like my versions of Alvin and Jeanette don’t have disagreements or different opinions and that is so WRONG! In fact, they disagree a LOT, but they do so in a healthy manner.
You’re right on the money! Haha! ALVIN 2.0: It’s the beginning of no return…or however you say that. Mind isn’t as good at working during the morning.
He is NOT someone from the show, but I wish he was a character from the show. Alvin deserved a teacher like him, to balance out the fact that Miss. Smith has it out for the poor kid. As far as physical description/personality goes, he’s kind of based on someone I knew in middle school who taught a class called Study Skills and helped me survive 7th and 8th grade. I wasn’t aware of this when designing him though. His backstory is also different.
Also, Alvin didn’t realize it, but this guy wears really thin rimmed gold glasses too that are sorta triangular. So if you’re a person who imagines stuff in your head while reading, that’ll help you picture him. I dunno if he mentioned the wavy shoulder length hair either. Hmmm.
ALVIN 2.0: I am bouncing off the walls with joy right now! WHOOOOOO!
I love it when all 6 interact too. It makes for all kinds of interesting dynamics and situations.
I feel like I'm going to have to get used to the new Eleanor but I do like that aspect of her. Especially since the movies just made her the girl version of theodore, being overly sweet etc. I used to get so many messages like "Eleanor is not as snarky as you portray her" and I couldn't really refute it, I was just writing her how I wanted to.
And they would disagree on a lot. At this point at least they actually have very little in common.
I already like him. He's unfazed by Alvin's attempts to give up, like a good teacher should bbe.
I don't think you mentioned either of those things but I'll keep it in mind. Now he's starting to look like MY old high school physics teacher.
I think you’ll get used to her pretty quick. Mine’s a composite of the 80s one and the 2015 one with a few small hints to CGI movie Eleanor now and then. Eleanor is the character that changes the most based on whoever is writing because there’s a lot less known about her in canon than the others. She’s more open to interpretation. I take what 2015 and the 80s established and build off that in ways that feel authentic to her. She’s still the Chipette of many talents! That’s for sure!
They have some things they share, but they aren’t aware of them yet.
TOTALLY! He’s so nice and friendly too. He seems to really ENJOY his job.
