Ficlets in response to prompts I receive on tumblr. This fic is for the responses below 500 words; fics above 500 words will be posted separately in this series. (You are welcome to send me more prompts if you enjoy my writing; I accept them via tumblr as well as in the comments! Rules in A/N of Chapter 1.)
The majority of these are pure fluff, though a few may involve some angst.

Logan pushed open the front door of the cottage he shared with his husband, its splintery wood long since worn smooth, expecting to greet his husband with a kiss and a delighted exclamation about his being home early from his job as the King’s advisor and chief historian, before the two of them would work together to cook dinner and settle in for the evening. “Virgil, I—”
His words died in his throat. Virgil stood frozen, staring at him, an expression of horror on his face that made Logan’s stomach clench with dread.

Or: Magic is banned; Logan's job is to help the king research it in an effort to root it out. But the mage leading the rebellion turns out to be someone far closer to home than Logan could ever have imagined.

“You shall do no such thing,” Janus said primly, gently pushing Remus’s shoulder down until he gave in and laid back down in Janus’s lap. “That was for your ears and your ears alone.”

The front door of the cabin opened and closed, bringing with it a swirl of cold air. “I hate everyone,” Janus grumbled, tugging off his boots and depositing them in the boot tray by the door.
Patton turned from the pots of warm beverages—hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, and chai—that he was preparing on the stovetop, and was faced with the sight of his fiance, bundled up in a big puffy coat that made him look even tinier than he was and a beanie with a pom-pom on top, his face and hair and shoulders covered in large clumps of snow. “Aw, did you find the twins’ ambush fort, honey?” Patton asked, trying very hard to sound sympathetic rather than amused.

Summary
Remus generally didn’t do things like “fear.” But he had to admit, the fact that he had hit Logan with no fewer than five snowballs—two of them directly to the face—over the course of the day, and Logan had shown absolutely no signs of wanting to get revenge… it had him feeling a little nervous. Just a tad. Logan was so good at snow-related revenge; this wasn’t like him. It was suspicious.
That didn’t stop Remus from lobbing yet another snowball at his boyfriend from across the yard the moment his back was turned, of course. Fear was just a chemical in his brain. Snow down Logan’s jacket, on the other hand, was a tangible product of hard work (packing the snowball) and effort (throwing the snowball).

Virgil took Logan’s other arm in his hands and examined it, not touching the half-finished tattoo. He seemed satisfied, smiling to himself as he looked. “Hey,” he said as Logan lowered the empty cup. “Uh, boyfriend hat on, but you’re doing a great job so far and I’m really proud of you.”
Logan opened his mouth to ask why the boyfriend hat needed to be on to say that, but found his question answered before he could start as Virgil pressed a quick kiss to his forehead.

“…What are you doing?” Logan asked, coming to a stop and staring down at where Janus and Virgil lay on the floor, Virgil on his back with his head on Janus’s stomach and the rest of Janus curled protectively around him.
Virgil opened his eyes and blinked up at Logan, feeling warm and sleepy. “Cat,” he said in explanation, pointing to the window.
Logan looked back and forth between the window and his boyfriends several times. “…I beg your pardon?”
“Sun,” Virgil added by way of clarification.
Logan blinked several times, still seeming mystified. “I…”
“There’s sunlight here from the window and it’s warm,” Janus said, not opening his eyes. “Is what he means. Like how cats like it. You should come cuddle too.”

Summary
Virgil could make out the little cottage clearly now, its walls all of dark gray stone. Green smoke trailed from the chimney; the windows were open, tattered black lace curtains fluttering in the breeze. There was a fire in a corner of the yard, a huge black cauldron propped over it. Interestingly, the steam rising from the cauldron was a perfectly normal pale gray color, though Virgil was certain the fire beneath it was far more magical than the one inside.
But much more importantly, in a long black dress with a full skirt and black lace gloves, bending over the cauldron and stirring it with a long, long wooden spoon, a single long braid dangling forward over his shoulder, broad-brimmed pointy hat shielding his face, was Janus.
Virgil slowed as he began to near the gate, drinking in the sight of his husband absorbed in his work. His heart was practically in his throat, which felt suddenly swollen up with emotion; it had been so long.

Logan waited so long that Roman thought he had given up. “Well then,” he said at last in a monotone. “I suppose I will just have to get rid of this surprise.”
Roman huffed and rolled over, dragging the pillow over his head. He was not that easy to entice.
“What a pity,” Logan commented after a pause. “I calculated it would improve your mood by three hundred and forty-two percent. Ah well. It cannot be helped, I suppose.”
Roman groaned to himself and dragged himself off the bed and across the room.
“Well. Here I go. Off to dispose of the surprise I made for you. Goodbye. What a sad and unavoidable waste.”
