Summary

Scars on a hockey player weren’t rare; they were actually quite common, from fights on the ice to drunken mishaps. However, Ilya Rosanov had more than most. Ilya was the walking poster board for daddy issues and good old fashion russian discipline. When he first started with Boston, he would flinch ever so slightly when one of the older guys clapped him on the back too hard; a few scars were too perfect, too round, and too structured cigarette burns; they littered his body.

Summary
It was common to resent a parent who had committed suicide; his therapist had told him this, books told him this, and even other survivors told him this. Ilya had never understood. He understood his mother. They were alike; he always understood her. He thought he would always feel this way, that he never had to forgive his mother, because there was nothing to forgive. She had done nothing wrong; he would miss her, but he would not blame her, or so he thought.
