Summary
Part of him wished that Adam had never found him in that trunk. That he had just accepted the lie that Julian had gone to live with his aunt as fact and moved on with his life.
He didn't want Adam to feel obligated to stay here. Maybe that was what happened to Russell. He agreed to take him in and realized too late that he had made a mistake. Adam would eventually grow bitter towards him, just like his uncle had, and that bitterness would turn to anger and resentment. Julian decided he would do whatever it took to make sure that didn't happen.
Or:
What if Julian had overheard Adam that night in the living room, hearing the disappointment in Catherine's voice as she found out her son wouldn't be attending the college of his dreams?
How far will Julian go to relieve this overwhelming feeling of guilt? Will he choose to go back with his uncle when the opportunity presents itself, putting his life in danger for the ones he loves?
