The best part of being functionally immortal, living centuries after faking your death against a rogue dragon on some shitty mountain in the Levant, Catherine Foundling decided, was living to see her legend taught to every successive generation, in bedrooms and classrooms all around the world.
(The second-best part was no longer having to give advice to whatever prince held enough clout to arrange a meeting between them, especially when the answer to their problem was usually, "Your firstborn child is an incompetent fool who should be assassinated as soon as you return to your domain.")
The worst part of being functionally immortal and living thousands of years was not, in fact, having to see people be wrong about her— no, she had not been sleeping with Vivienne. Even after centuries of late nights drinking, her friend's sexuality had never wavered.
The worst part was watching the history of her friends be taught in the lecture halls she had finagled the budget to build before hers was.
