Summary
The trolls, one of the most technologically advanced species, had been buffed down to nothing but pets. And unfortunately, just like dogs, some were thrown out by incompetent owners. That is why, on this fine, rainy night, Karkat Vantas is sitting behind a dumpster, staring down a human who is trying to give him a jacket.
Humans are incredibly cruel, and some experiment on other humans, causing powers and mutations. Some of these can cause nocturnal behavior. This is why you, a pyrotechnic mutant, are sitting in the cold rain in an old band tee, holding your jacket out to a sad, scared troll.

**A rewrite of my fic by the same name: But the unabridged and extended edition! Many things have been changed between the fics. **
Tony always assumed that he had done everything and everyone worth doing, but he was still empty and alone at the end of the day.
Then one day he was asked if he had ever had "done" a troll.
This led him down a path filled with shock, anguish, disturbing sights and bitter truths. But it also eventually led him to deep friendships, genuine happiness, a loving family and a self completing feeling of heroism.
It also led to him saving generations of trolls who were treated as "pets" or slaves on earth. But that was a side benefit.
