Alex had taken in a shaky breath and stared for a long time, utterly confused and slightly embarrassed about the situation. But you seemed more than content with it, and for a boy like him? Well, it would have to suffice.
“I don’t really get what’s happening,” he began with a soft tremor.
You smiled back at him with kind eyes, leaning in your shovel. “You don’t have to understand,” you said. “You just have to be okay.”
