Daniel inhales, instantly prepared to use words, words, words to help Rashid save face and also save his own ass because that’s his fucking forté. “My mistake. Your semi-estranged companion and extremely astute business partner used me as a glorified sex toy last night, and it turns out I hardcore needed to be objectified. I doubt this will come as a shock, but that worked wonders for my aging, ailing ego. I, uh…” He shoots a deferential sidelong glance at Rashid, who’s giving him a guarded look. “Wouldn’t mind if it happened again, but that’s at his discretion.”
Louis gives Rashid a look that sits somewhere at the crossroads of amusement, bafflement, and contempt. Razor-edged panic flares in Daniel’s stomach; he has no idea why such a specific cocktail of emotion should get to him when it’s aimed straight past him at someone else.
“Let me have this, Louis,” Rashid says with quiet urgency, his grasp on Daniel’s shoulder tightening. “He’ll be gone soon enough as it is.”

Armand kisses like she’s trying to gather all of the saliva in Daniel’s mouth for a reservoir. She kisses like she wants to eat her tongue, like she wants to climb down her throat and make a home between her third and fourth ribs. For every time Daniel pushes into her, Armand pushes back tenfold. She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth, bites it with regrettably blunt canines and doesn’t let go until it's sure to bruise. Her tongue scrapes each corner of Daniel’s mouth, draws shapes on the insides of her cheeks, traces her frenulum so forcefully Daniel fears the thin membrane may snap.
The kiss doesn’t really answer Daniel’s prior question, yet she knows the truth of it nonetheless, the answer blaring hot and obvious.
Yes, I missed you. Yes, I thought of you, stupid boy.
To anybody else it would be an impossible puzzle to parse. To Daniel, it’s as clear as glass between window panes.

Lou hums. “Is that why you didn’t answer my call on Friday?”
“Yeah, we were… busy.” Dani says.
“Okay ew.”

Summary
Once the dust settles, Sam’s main issue with Lestat’s inadvertent apocalypse isn’t the amount of paperwork. It had generated a fuckton for anyone Talamasca-employed or Talamasca-adjacent, and that had made Rashid cross for a week. No, Sam’s plight is that having been on tour and conscripted to fight some batshit, six-thousand-year-old elder had put Halloween on hold for him personally. His love of decorations had been one more nail in his unpopularity coffin with the Paris coven; he hadn’t even given them a respite from that come October.
Secondary problem: the world knows about vampires now. Rather, more of the world knows about vampires than did before—like, pretty much all of the world—and Amsterdam has decided to fob the politics off on London, which means it’s Raglan’s jurisdiction. His misery is fun to watch; Rashid’s, not so much. Everyone who’d been on tour with Lestat and survived the debacle had been sent to London and detained there. Sam only counts himself and Rashid lucky because that’s home. That, and they’d gotten a front row seat to Raglan’s suffering.

“Welcome home, my love,” Armand murmurs between kisses, unzipping Daniel’s jacket. “Can’t wait to get you under the covers, start a film…”
“Hot,” Daniel teases, nuzzling Armand’s earlobe, biting his neck with a hint of fangs. “Your dirty talk never fails to…” He feels Armand freeze.
“Daniel,” Armand says, the tremor in his body suggesting that it’s taking an inordinate amount of control not to give in to his attack instincts.
“Jesus Christ,” Ellie says, strolling in from the dining room with her arms folded as Daniel lifts his head, mouth clamped shut to hide the retraction of his fangs. “What an entrance. Might get you a third Pulitzer if you write this scene in your next book. Hey, Paige, get in here!”

It wasn’t Parkinson’s. Not in the way Daniel had learned to live with the fucking disease. It was Parkinson’s, if Parkinson’s was written up in an overdramatic telenovela that Daniel couldn’t stop himself from watching if he ever caught it on TV.
It started with a slight tremor, barely the tip of his fingers. Then Daniel realized how much his legs felt stiffer and stiffer, second after second, as if he was the boy turning into a wooden puppet. How ironic for Pinocchio to be condemned by the truth.
When Daniel's disease suddenly started to act up, there was only Armand around.
Louis had previously told Armand that he would kill him if Armand were to harm Daniel in any way. Armand would never harm the Boy. He simply wished to care, to take care. Did it really matter if he wrote another script, another story, another narrative? After all, Parkinson's disease was merely a plot device in Armand's new play.
