In order to escape from Purgatory with Dean, Cas had to become human so that is what he did. He felt it was a more fitting punishment anyway. However, when they get out, they are not in the year they’re supposed to be. Finding themselves back in 1991 and now different people entirely from the other Dean and other Castiel, Dean vows to do what he can to make life better for the Winchester brothers. With help from Gabriel (who so does not want to die) Dean and Cas get a house and everything else they need. Eventually John trusts Dean enough to leave the boys with him and Cas. Then Sam, (their Sam) somehow follows them from the original timeline.

The door opens to the Cage to release Lucifer, except there's nothing in there. Only confetti and a trickster who's not really a trickster and has a hell of a story to tell. One that involves the love of a big brother willing to do anything to protect his little brother and keep him safe. Even if that means tearing him from his Grace and making him human in order to free him from Hell.
Even if that means tearing his own Grace out to become human with him.
With new memories pouring in fast, Dean and Sam are in a race to figure out who really flipped the switch on the apocalypse and how to stop it, pretending they're vessels when they're really just missing their Graces, and, oh yeah, trying to find their brotherhood that they both had a hand in ripping apart.
That last one might not be the easiest, but it could mean the difference for who they are now, and who they used to be.

You do not need any prior knowledge of “Chuck won” as an angle of analysis–or even any prior familiarity with Supernatural meta–
to read this. Knowledge of season 15 is encouraged, but hopefully my descriptions are enough to clue you in or refresh your memory when needed.For a lot of people, chunks of this won't be new to you. That's cool. But I do think there is value in seeing all of the pieces together in one place to create the full picture. Regardless, while the sections and chapters are written to build upon each other in an order, they also stand on their own merit if you want to skim or skip around.
My goal was to make this concept as accessible as possible to anyone who may be interested in it.

An’ if none of them other little fuckers hold out, he’ll end up being Lucifer’s meatsuit.” Meg seemed put off by that idea. It was working. Maybe he’d found his way in. “You ‘n I both know the importance of his older brother. You really think that the angels will let Lucifer’s true vessel not house him?” Meg shook her head, knowing the sad truth about her little brother. “The bigger problem is Asmodeus.” Meg’s eyes widened comically and her head whipped to the side to look at him. It would’ve been funny in any other situation. “Dagon heard a rumor that the Bastard Prince,” it was his and Dagon’s snide nickname for Asmodeus. “Is planning to get ahold of our nephew and use him to take hell.”
“Oh, what the fuck?!” Meg grumbled and stood abruptly.
“We can’t let that happen, Meg. We can stop it. All of it.”
“No. Abso-fucking-lutely not. No way. What do you need?” Bingo. His first sale was done.
