Summary
A figure stands before him.
Carlo flinches, startling at the sight. He instinctively takes a step back, feet slipping over scattered cards. He fumbles on the floor for only a moment before scrambling to his feet, upright once more, eyes racing to find whatever lay in the darkened corner.
Before him a figure dark and looming stands, its eyes a piercing lance, its face a mirrored reflection of Carlo’s own.
Carlo stares up at the figure. The puppet called P stares back.

Carlo is enjoying his new life, free from the past. But when P returns, Carlo begins to question what's truly real. How can the broken puppet be here now? And what revelations will his appearance bring?

He hadn’t seen Carlo for about a month. He wasn’t attending lessons, training sessions. Romeo wasn’t allowed to enter his father's home. He was hospitalised, he says now. Spent a couple weeks in nauseatingly sterile rooms, barely conscious on pain killers, his arm gone. Not giving signs of life. He is here now; Romeo reminds himself. Changed, tired, holding a hand of a child Romeo never saw in his life. He says it's his brother. One he either forgot to mention or was too painful to acknowledge. Weak blood, had to send the kid away to hopefully gain some strength. Romeo believes that. Maybe he shouldn’t, blinded like so many. Too focused on the flowers to see the thorns. Maybe the scent is buried too deep, maybe the thorns already infect his bones. He doesn’t mind anyway

The reprieve gave Romeo time to think, Carlo time to overthink, and P time to adjust to the dynamic developing between the three of them.

The boy knew that Romeo, the King of Puppets, renewed body and all, had been an object of his affections. It was the same as him, for the blond, if those soft lingering gazes and lingering touches to his hand meant anything. He wasn't as dumb or as clueless as everyone made him out to be. In fact, he was rather perceptive.
So when he had awoken from this memory, heart in his chest hammering all the while, he knew the implications of it hadn’t exactly been innocent. The feelings and emotions were true, but the drive and desire shared between them had been– something else entirely.
