Summary
Being faced with a rampaging, snarling, fanged and sharp-clawed creature is not exactly typical for the Dead Boy Detectives, but it’s not entirely unheard of, either. Thirty-five-odd years of successfully resolving supernatural situations of all kinds earns one something of a reputation, after all. Which means that the reports of a strange, aggressive beast causing havoc and chasing ghosts in south London have ended up in Edwin’s and Charles’ metaphorical laps.

Edwin finds the little glass vial almost by accident. Small and slender and tucked away in the corner of this witch’s workshop as it is, he almost passes it by. Yet it catches his attention anyway. He doesn’t know why.
His fingers are on the glass, picking up the vial before he realizes. He rolls it slowly before his eyes. A runic symbol, unrecognized, unrecognizable, is burned black into the seal. The colour within is one he cannot describe. He cannot tell whether it is a liquid or mist or sand. It hurts to look at for too long. He has the sense of whispering somewhere just out of range.
Oh, this is very bad.

Summary
A Halloween party/club night meet-cute! Edwin (reluctantly) joins his friends for a night out, and quickly finds himself the focus of a very handsome man dressed as some sort of cat. Cue clever costumes, flirtatious banter and club dancing.
Through the gap he catches sight of a man lounging indolently against the bar, all attitude and half-bare chest and low-slung waistband, and what appears to be a set of pointed ears atop his head. He is staring straight at Edwin. For one electric moment Edwin’s eyes meet those of the stranger, somehow shining an unearthly gold even in the low club lighting, and the breath catches in his throat. Then the crowd shifts and hides the man from view, and Edwin shakes himself free from the tension and turns back to his friends.
