It's a few weeks before Christmas when Enjolras shows up on Grantaire's doorstep, begging her to be her date for Christmas. It's all well and good except that unfortunately for R it's a fake date, and she'll be spending her Christmas in close quaters with the girl that she can't help but love. There are suprises and presents and mistletoe kisses and scheming siblings along the way, and all she can do is hold on for dear life and hope that this will be a Christmas fairy-tale in the end.

But then the barricade rises and Eponine must make a choice about the future she wishes to live. Summary
A story about two people who hurt when they're put together, but hurt more when they’re apart and learning to be patient, whatever that means. or Enjolras and R keep sleeping with each other then fucking it all up again.
Everything feels far away from him, and so does everyone. He’s created this bridge of emotions over the summer he can’t explain and whoever is waiting at either side cannot rescue him, only wait patiently for him to make a move. He means to say this. He means to say something like this. He means to express to Grantaire that this last year has been terrible and confusing and wonderful, but this summer of radio silence has been the worst and he misses him.
Instead, he opens his mouth, face blotched red with anger and says, “I don’t know why you find me so intolerable, but it's affecting everyone else so can you either work on it, or let me know so I can finally give up on this charade of niceties completely”.
Grantaire barks out a shock of laughter.

"You left me."
"I wanted to marry you!" says Grantaire. He drags his hand across his face. "I wanted –" He swallows, and muffles his words into his hand. "I wanted to marry you," he says, willing Enjolras to understand him.
"I wanted to marry you too," says Enjolras, bristling. "Why do you think I proposed?"
Grantaire looks away, dried silly string sliding down one side of his head until he shakes it off. "You wanted to marry equal opportunities legislature," he says quietly. "Not me."
"What?"
Grantaire hunches in on himself, stares down at his still-full glass instead of up at Enjolras. "Do you remember what you said after I said yes?" He carries on. Grantaire's voice shakes, but he ignores it. "You said, 'This is going to be a great example for other queer people in this state.' Not 'I love you.' Not 'I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Grantaire.' 'This is going to be a great example for the other queer people in this state.'"
Enjolras splutters, Grantaire can hear him doing it, but there's nothing he can say because Grantaire's not lying. He couldn't if he wanted to; those words echo around his brain whenever he's particularly morose, the worst tune ever to get stuck in his head. He remembers everything, from Enjolras's delighted face to the way his stomach had filled with lead and dropped out the bottom of his torso, the way Enjolras had hired an official photographer without telling him so they could get professional photos of the proposal.
He had been so ecstatic that Enjolras had planned everything and organised everyone to be there so that it would be the perfect proposal, just for him, but it hadn't been for Grantaire at all, and he hadn't realised until too late, blinded by his own happiness.

Summoning every bit of strength in his body, he managed to shift feebly to the side... his fingers brushed against something lying close beside him. He lay still for a while, watching as the light faded into shadows. Only when it was gone did he dare to move again. If he could not see, then he must feel something… It was a human hand. The only tangible thing in this horrible darkness. He touched it only gingerly at first and then wrapped his fingers around it. It was a small hand… a woman’s hand. And it was covered in something wet and sticky. Blood. Of course it would be blood. Surely this woman, whoever she was, was dead. Was there no one left but him? God have mercy, why could he not die?
A novella about the days leading up to the barricade... and then the sequel... but I left a few characters living. Because Eponine deserved better than dying for a man who didn't love her... and Enjolras is too alive to die.
