Nobody ever took Gammon's prophecy on the world ending seriously, and everyone just continued to do their job, day after day after day. Adulthood must be boring.
Hänsel and Gretel decide to be the children they're supposed to be and play around a bit, instead of brutally murdering people. Seeing this as a good opportunity to slack off from her own chores, Lilith Baldured joins the twins.
The three blond kids ask everyone they're brave enough to approach, but everyone seems to be busy. Lady Conchita is playing with her food, Gammon is trying to keep this sapling from dying and Lich.. even after all this time, he seems to share that grudge against Michaela with Gretel.
Either way, the trio decides to play hide and seek, more specifically, Dictator Gretel decides. At least Evil's Theater has a lot of good hiding places, even enough for multiple rounds of the game, and everyone is too busy to scold them for messing with the furniture.
(Pro tip for playing hide and seek: don't hide in a place where someone else already hid, because that's dumb!)
