He didn’t expect that, either.
“And to ask for the chance to court you properly.”
Phainon opens his mouth, then closes it. He really ought to think before he speaks; far too often he lands himself in trouble by acting on impulse and not planning ahead.
“Did your mother send you here?”
Maybe there’s no difference between him thinking or not; most things that leave his mouth border on insanity. Cyrene sputters, clapping her hands over her mouth, reminding Phainon of her presence.
“Why would you ask that?” Mydei mutters.
Phainon doesn’t know. Because he’s stupid?
“Because my mom always sends me to apologize when I’ve done something wrong.”
At this point, he is fairly certain he should stop talking and bury himself underground. However, he has a bad habit of rambling when he’s nervous, and right now, he’s having a major breakdown.
“The first thing you did was apologize to me, so I thought maybe your mom—”
“The Queen—” Mydei cuts him off, “—may have had her share of involvement. However,” he straightens, standing taller, “I have come here of my own free will. My mother did not send me to seek your company. I am here…” He lets the pretense drop, his features softening into an achingly human expression.
“Because I wanted to see you.”

What fate awaited an Amphoreus where the destined Savior, an outlander outside the variables accounted for in the Scepter's extrapolations, never arrived? Where 33 million Eternal Recurrences ended in futility? Irontomb and Scepter ceased to be, the Theoros has abandoned his experiment and Era Nova has finally arrived. But, what was the cost for this? What price needed to be paid?
Yes, one will certainly wish to ask this. But, the real question is, if Era Nova was always meant to be a lie to guide the planet's inhabitants into becoming the kindling for the Scepter's ascension as a Lord Ravager - what does the arrival of the Era Nova truly mean now?
