Daeron chuckled, his lips quirking in amusement. “You are very sharp, Princess. Nay, I was not born here. I have dwelt in this kingdom as the king’s minstrel for little more than a month.”
“And how do you find it? Eglador, I mean.” Daeron paused. He must consider his words carefully, here. Any misstep and surely he would find himself without a title—or a head. “It is wonderful,” he said simply, and it was the truth. “I find the forest nearby to be especially enchanting. The beauty of nature is incomparable to all—” He swallowed, the words catching in his throat. “All except you, I find.”
