Summary
Many stories have grand starts, with men of greatness meeting in fine establishments or well-known towns, destiny drawing their brilliance together as if they were magnets.
Hosea Matthews on the other hand, meets Dutch van der Linde on the side of a road neither of them remembers on his way to Chicago. And even after they each give back what they stole from the other, he's not entirely certain the younger man isn't trying to con him again. But there's something about him that makes Hosea want to get closer. To maybe even stick around to see if those pretty words will become a beautiful reality.

Summary
There's an informant among the gang, working for The Pinkerton Detective Agency. The Blackwater ferry job was a set-up, and Arthur intends to find out who exactly would be stupid enough to try to take down the Van der Linde gang, all the while fighting to bury feelings he's been holding onto for years. Anger, attraction, betrayal.
Someone else has different plans for Arthur, and it comes down to Dutch to pick up the peices.

He looked toward the boy.
He looked lost.
Lost-wasn't something Dutch was used to. It wasn't as easily soothed as a pat on the shoulder or a squeeze around the middle. He figured the kid wasn't one to know much about what comfort was, anyhow.
He stood without a word, felt the kid's eyes following him all the way to where the body still hang on display. Words were whispered to a guard and then, that hat was held delicately in his hands like it was some trophy.
"I don't know much about fatherhood," he said, leaning down to be eye-level with the boy. "My daddy died when I was too young to really get it."
Dutch stood again, propping the hat up on the edge of an empty hitching post. He looked back at the boy, revolver in hand. "But I know enough to know that whatever he was, wasn't it." He pressed the gun carefully into the kid's hands. Guided his thumb to cock it back, wrap his finger around the trigger.
"Whaddya say we give him the sendoff he deserves?"
They left, hand-in-hand, fresh gunshot in the center of the hat on the kid's head.*Pre-game oneshots following Arthur growing up as an outlaw. Arthur+John & Dutch/Hosea are the main relationships.

2.The morning had been hot, and Arthur had taken it upon himself to help around camp. It was one of those days, where there was virtually nothing to do. Arthur had awoken to Isaac throwing sticks at a tree, bored out of his mind it seemed.
3.Revenge is just... A fools game," he recites and Hosea nods, clapping Arthur's shoulder.
4.He found himself in the snow-covered mountains, his eye peering through the scope as he watches John and Bill set up the trap in the valley underneath. Javier and Mac stand beside him, each with their binoculars out, scouting different directions in case of any unaccounted for lawmen show up.
