Summary
After the confirmation of L's death, Roger Ruvie alongside everyone else had reasonably assumed that Quillsh Wammy had also been killed at the hands of Kira.
Mello ends up running away from the orphanage after being told the news, determined to become L's sole successor.
One cold winter night, he is found by the very person who brought him into the orphanage nearly a decade ago.
Quillsh Wammy has returned to England, alive and physically intact. Among all the children he has gathered, he finds that he ought to be happy, and do his best to guide the duo that is to succeed L. It would not do to show even an inkling of what the death of his most prized protege has done to him.
Even if it wounded him deeper than any physical blade could and brutally tore open decades old scars.
Even if he is slowly falling apart.
Even if the only thing that can silence the ghosts following him is a bullet straight through his head.
Roger Ruvie has loved Quillsh Wammy for nearly half a century. That is undeniable. Whether or not undying love can save a man too stubborn to admit he needs it is another question.

Summary
Truth be told, L was depressed. Utterly and completely depressed.
Coming to that realization was always hard for him. Everytime he closed an interesting case, everytime a criminal he catched was sent to stand trial, he felt it. He felt the clock ticking down, counting down the seconds before the tidal wave of boredom would inevitably come crashing down, drowning him. And everytime, he ignored this inevitability and ran. He ran, chasing down cases after cases like a madman. And while solving those gore, horrifying and bland cases, he tried to convince himself that they were thrilling. He solved them fast, one after the other, as if increasing his pace would also increase the intensity he felt.
But it’s no use. He always ended up back at the bottom of the ocean.

Interesting! I've seen plenty of fics speculating that Light was depressed before he found the Death Note, but I've never seen a fic exploring L's mental health and mindset before and during the events of the story. What a nice change of pace! Wonderful work! :)

Ok but like. On what basis. How are they gonna prove he has some psychic magic and actually kills people lmao. Imo at this point in the canon he could have just kill him and nothing would happen to him. There is no actual basis to persecute him over, fitting a very flimsy profile doesnt actually mean anything.
