Summary
The moment Light writes in the death note he becomes a killer, but he could not become Kira without L. (L/Light, slow burn — Yotsuba Arc with all the mind-games intact)
"The thing about getting rid of useless pride is that it is a scaffolding built of years. It takes more than the work of a moment; though you are begging in the windowless cell. What was I thinking, putting myself in here? You don’t remember. It’s beginning to disturb you, how much you don’t remember; although when you close your eyes and follow the trail—one event follows upon the other just as you had expected it to; and you can even recall the first time Kira killed, when all you saw was a reporter’s face through the screen of your TV. It was the end of your boredom, because though you were nothing but a spectator to the great battle, you already felt how Kira and L would pull you along in their wake just as any battle between titans would (because you would stand within the event horizon, if only to get closer).
Perhaps that is where you are now. In the quiet dark within the black hole, where your self, gaunt and unfamiliar to you, has already irrevocably been altered. (Suspect. Name: Yagami Light.)"

Summary
“I know you’re going to tell me to go away now,” she said delicately, and this was uncharted territory for both of them. Misa so rarely said things delicately, but this was still her, always taking his hatred as fact, and simultaneously demanding love in her petulant way. I don’t care if all you do is use me. “But I won’t. And you won’t make me.”

Light’s façade is fracturing after killing L. In a moment of weakness, he lets a memory-less Misa force her way into calming him down. -

Summary
Light scanned the room again. Everyone avoided eye contact, their expressions stuck somewhere between concern and confusion. The silence stretched awkwardly until the door opened and a doctor stepped inside.
Clipboard. Nervous posture. Forced neutrality.
“Young man,” the doctor began, clearing his throat. “We received your blood test results.”
Light narrowed his eyes. His voice came out sharper than he intended. “Blood test? What blood test?”
The doctor hesitated, a bad sign.
“It came back positive.”
Light felt irritation spike. “Positive for what?”
The room tensed as if bracing for impact.
Then the doctor said it, blunt, emotionless, devastating:
“You’re pregnant.”
The world stopped.

Summary
L died. I felt happy, afterall I won everything I planned to, and after L’s defeat I would live peacefully and get to continue ensuring justice will and forever will be served.
The issue is that L has been on my mind since his death. When someone tries to beat me my mind thinks, and always thinks that L was better. Smarter, even when his existence was sadder.
I won though, it was a victory that I will never lose grip on, even though this loneliness I will never admit overwhelms me. The lack of existence of one who is as smart as I am.
I therefore began to imagine his ghost.
(Might be ooc bc I havent watched death note in a year, I forgot ryuk and I got lazy. Also my first fanfic.)

Summary
It started innocuously – Misa, being a habitual party-goer and social drinker, begged him to try a drink as they celebrated their victory over L.
Unlike seemingly everyone else his age, Light had never felt the urge to get drunk; the idea of losing control just wasn't desirable to him. Besides, inebriation could make him reveal critical information, and L would grasp onto any mistakes with the strength of a constrictor.
But there's no more L now, is there?

Summary
“The neurophysiological footprint of brain activity after cardiac arrest and during near-death experience is not well understood. Although a hypoactive state of brain activity has been assumed, experimental animal studies have shown increased activity after cardiac arrest… Albeit the influence of neuronal injury and swelling, our data provide the first evidence from the dying human brain in a non-experimental, real-life acute care clinical setting and advocate that the human brain may possess the capability to generate coordinated activity during the near-death period.”
“We measured 900 seconds of brain activity around the time of death and set a specific focus to investigate what happened in the 30 seconds before and after the heart stopped beating… Through generating oscillations involved in memory retrieval, the brain may be playing a last recall of important life events just before we die.”
L Lawliet dies, and for nine hundred seconds, he remembers.

Tape 11
Suspect: Yagami, Light - Day 3 - Audio only.
Subject: Speculative theory - 2:00AMAcross the top of the tape in big, bold letters reads Confession (Do Not Review)
Light sinks down into the leather chair, knees spread. He has one hand around the glass of whiskey, the other resting on his thigh. With careful ease, his hand drifts down and he unbuckles his belt with one hand as the tape goes on. L’s voice is unchanged, almost clinical in nature. It sounds like he’s pacing as he records, sounds like he’s moving through the room like a ghost dragging chains behind him.
”I began suspecting him long before I had reason to. The data supported it eventually, yes… But It was gut instinct, that was there from the beginning.”
