Roger tries so hard to keep the relationship going but he can be a delicate flower himself even though he seems very self confident. He needs Brian more than the guitarist realizes.

The stranger finally emerges from the darkness, heavy bucket of water sloshing in one hand. Brian recognises him as a friendly rider from the hunt, a slim blond with expressive eyes and a cheeky smile. He looks delectably dishevelled now that his red coat is missing, white shirt fully open but held in place by the thick suspenders that are also holding up once-pristine white jodhpurs tucked into calf-high black boots. There are glistening beads of moisture on his bare chest, a stray rivulet of water running beyond his ribs and the thick black leather belt he is wearing for decoration on his smart hunting uniform.
Brian glances up to meet his eye, sensing that his hungry ogling has not gone unnoticed. The man looks more than just vaguely familiar, his features engrained into Brian’s mind. ‘You were on the hunt,’ he says, mouth dry as he hears a small noise of confirmation.

Roger would laugh bitterly if he wasn’t currently suffocating to death, blood thumping in his ears. He draws in a sawed breath when the weight is lifted from his back, firelight pulsing as the creature circles him on its hands and knees before drawing itself up to its full height with a purr. It is Brian, but it is also not Brian. The stuffy student never looked this imposing, even when he was trying to intimidate Roger on the front steps of his rented house. Roger thinks he would have noticed if his eyes had glowed red before, even without his specs. ‘What’s happened to Brian?’
Something strange is going on with Brian. Freddie summons Roger to investigate...

It's all been true.The effects of depression have been weighing down Brian for a while now. Four weeks, to be precise. He hasn't had the energy to do much except sleep and drink himself into a spiral of self-pity and depression. He hates himself, and everything else. He hates himself for his depression, he hates everything else because of his depression. It feels like happiness is just out of reach, tantalizing him, taunting him by being just out of reach from his fingers.
It seems that he only finds happiness in his dreams.
Maybe he only wants to dream.
