“I don’t know why I’m always so nervous when I’m visiting my parents,” Jude said softly. He turned his head into Alvin’s chest, inhaling deeply. He relaxed further on the exhale as Alvin raised a hand to press his thumb and fingers into the back of Jude’s neck, massaging the taut muscles there.
Because they’re shitty people, both of them, Alvin thought but didn’t say.
“I’m with you this time,” Alvin replied instead, bringing his other hand to try—in vain—to flatten Jude’s hair a little, working out the windswept tangles.
“Yeah,” Jude said softly.
