Flash. Click. The shot captured them mid-laugh, eyes locked - Oscar’s expression soft and unguarded, Lando’s relaxed and carefree.
It looked real. Too real.
“Brilliant, lads!” PR said. “We’ll send the relevant pictures to you two to post, alright?”
Lando leant back into his seat, muttering, “Brilliant, huh? Guess we’re good at pretending.”
Oscar glanced at him, still caught off guard.
“Yeah,” he says quietly. “Guess we are.”
The next day, the picture hit Instagram.

Lando’s eyebrows rose at the audacity, a small smile growing on his face, before he threw back in Oscar’s direction.

"Uh, hallo? I am, uh, Oscar. I am new, what is it, student? And you?"
Oscar. He practices the name in his head. It rolled off his tongue quite nicely, as much as he hates to admit it. Oscar.
"Hello. I'm Lando, McLaren driver," Lando said, quite clipped, because he had work to do and couldn't waste time on this right now.
"Lan-doo?" Oscar asked, eyebrows rising and Jesus Christ, is Oscar actually stupid, or just taking the piss?
"Your English is terrible, mate."
The words are leaving Lando's mouth before he even realises they've escaped up his throat. A mechanic stops mid screw turn. An engineer drops a pair of safety goggles like it's a bomb.
Oscar looks like he punched him. Lando kind of wants to punch himself.
"Ja, I, um, I know. I - what's the word - ah, yes, try. I try."
Lando swallows the sorry in his throat. It takes a second to go, the guilt heavy in his mouth. It tastes like acid and pain and the apology he probably should say but won't.
His ego is bigger than his empathy, it seems.

Oscar had grown up going to church every Sunday in his little suit and tie, saying grace before every meal, doing his good deed everyday, appreciating the life he had been given by God.. in short he grew up being a good Catholic boy. A picture perfect Catholic boy too, he made sure to never sin and he abided by God’s every word.
When Oscar first met Lando, he hadn't expected the driver to be Catholic as well, considering his reputation. It irked him and he didn't know why. He tried to keep his distance at first, more worried about sorting out that weird feeling rather than Lando himself, but Lando managed to worm his way into his life anyway.

It started with clear signs Oscar immediately ignored. The ache in his body that was completely unwarranted, since he hadn't exercised today, or the day before; and that, paired with the stomach cramps and general tightness in his abdomen, were telling a familiar story.
Maybe it was the barbecue on Wednesday, or perhaps it's a bug he's dragged from Australia. And jetlag too, that's probably the cause of the headaches. And being honest, being in the hot garage right now probably isn't helping with it, to be fair.or; WAG Oscar gets sick at the Austin GP. (It's okay, though. Lando gets there to help... eventually)

Summary
McLaren's team orders at Monza get everyone talking. As the criticism pours in Lando gets angry with Max for his commentary during the race, feeling like Max didn't have his back, and made fun of him instead. Emotional fatigue and guilt reach their boiling point and instead of going after Lando, Max self-sabotages and goes all out celebrating his win. But the boys don't like arguing and quickly regret their decisions. Lando's parents step in to try to bring them back together.

Some new faces were around the garage today! This weekend the team received Oscar Piastri, he was part of an engineering program by Mclaren. He’s been working with them for a while now, and already met Lando in the MTC in 2023! Hopefully we can hear more from them soon. 👀
