It wasn’t like Tim could just leave and go outside. Tim was only allowed to go to the lab with the white walls and green tubes.
Tim just wanted a friend to talk to. He was so tired of being alone.

Oh my god this was so fucking good, it was so interesting and i loved how it explored how much of an effect the things in tims life had on him, just how much the contrast between tim and kon was explored, and the codependency
Honestly the only gripes i have is i wish we got to linger more on like the codependency between tim and kon and like,, tim and kon before they were broken out, maybe talking about all the yapping tim had done to kon while he was unconscious (handplates style /niche undertale comic ref)
That is just me nitpicking though, this is SO good, read it NOW

Summary
Tim Drake never actually wanted to become part of the Robin-Batman-vigilante outfit. No, really. But the last Robin up and died, and now Batman is going crazy, and no one else is doing anything about it, so...Tim decides to become Robin. He might as well, right? At the very least it'll give him something to do while his parents are gone.
Still, Tim's not taking up the mantle until he can put a couple of things in order. Step one? Making sure the Joker can't get it into his head to kill another Robin. Not ever again. (Good thing Tim's not the one with a 'no killing' rule.)
And then after that? Well, after that it's only just a matter of keeping Batman from learning Tim's identity and subsequently chasing him off. Not until Bruce can get back on his feet and pick a new Robin, a real one this time. Easy-peasy.

Timothy Jackson Drake was a genius.
Certifiably, he’d been tested. Twice.
He was also smart.
He had his secret hide out office, his Batman photography hobby, and a foolproof system for managing his well-meaning but often absent parents.
Everything was working exactly as planned.
Then Super Boy Prime punched a hole through reality and Jason Todd clawed his way out of his grave.
Which was good. But decidedly not Tim’s problem.
Or it wasn’t until Tim accidentally photographed a dead Robin wandering around Gotham on Halloween night.
When he couldn’t lead the zombie to Batman, he did what any logical eleven-year-old would do: he solved the puzzle, fed the zombie, and somehow ended up with an overly protective shadow who thought crossing state lines required supervision.
