His brothers had tried to help him through it, but some things just… didn’t stick. Not for him.
He couldn’t do it anymore. It hurt, it hurt, to watch his insides slowly drip out, to watch his brothers try and try to help him and hold his shame behind sealed lips, swallow down the admission that he was still broken so it wouldn’t spill like blood from the corners of his mouth.

Time hums agreeably, watching for Twilight's reaction. The Rancher's ears twitch again.
“Guess he wasn't lyin’ about training,” he murmurs.
The grin freezes on the other male's face, and Time's heart jumps in sudden, unfamiliar anxiety. “Rancher? Something the matter?”
Twilight shushes him. Time pauses in his tracks, frozen at the unexpected gesture.
Listen, Twilight signs at him.

Having another body, the form of a legendary beast no less, naturally leads to developing some odd habits, behaviours and routines. Instincts are the worst, taking care of a body that is completely anatomically different to a hylian has a steep learning curve, effects bleeding between the two forms make even being hylian strange sometimes, and even once you think you've got it all under control, there's always the inevitable mistake.
Thankfully, when the Links start travelling together, meeting nine other heroes who all share the same spirit and a similar soul, these various quirks are almost normal. Relatable. Understandable, even. Support and empathy are freely given when you're surrounded by people who know what you're going through.
