Summary
Merlin slips into the chainmail, remembers how Arthur once helped him put on his gloves in Ealdor when they were trying to protect his village from being sieged. His magic tingles under his skin, recently recovered after the Crystal Caves. He wonders if wearing this armor, the king’s spare armor, if he could be disguised when using magic to stop the fighting before there are more casualties. Maybe he could even convince Morgana and Mordred that he’s Arthur, and distract them while Arthur leads Camelot to victory elsewhere on the battlefield.
A "Song of Achilles" x Merlin and Arthur fic.

Summary
He grips the reigns in clenched fists, trying to stay mounted as his horse wildly dashes through the snow and underbrush, dodging trees in its panic to flee the beast that had frightened it. Merlin can hear the knights following on their horses, hoof beats pounding into the snow. He tries ineffectively to stop his frightened mare, but it is of no use, she keeps chase deeper into the forest.
“Merlin!”
He peers over his shoulder to see Arthur close behind, chasing the shrieking animal, which upon further inspection, Merlin realizes is another boar, this one overgrown and fiercesome. It’s tusks like daggers, the length of a man’s forearm, and razor sharp. With wide eyes he meets Arthur’s, which are staring back at him with poorly concealed worry.

Merlin is too tired to hide his magic, and the truth finds its way out. Now, Arthur is left to deal with the repercussions as Merlin fights his own mind.

Summary
Someone in the Camelot (Merlin) has rooted out a spy on the council. This anonymous person (who is obviously Merlin) put this accusation into a long letter, full of evidence from a thorough investigation and infiltration of the spy's circle within the staff. Arthur is remarkably impressed with this mystery detective (again, Merlin) and becomes set on uncovering their identity.
Merlin didn't think things would get out of hand. He only wanted to get rid of the spy publicly and legally, so he forewent the magic and decided to conduct a counterintelligence mission for months to gather evidence the old-fashioned way—like anyone would! But suddenly Arthur is searching for him, and magic or not, he learned a long time ago to stay in the shadows.
George is so tired. It is so obvious. King Arthur is disappointingly unobservant, and George cannot take this much longer.

Summary
Whether it was because of his bright smile, or his expressive eyes – which tended to beam and dart and flutter about like lively blue butterflies, alighting but briefly on every surface – or the contrast his glowing skin made to his raven hair… Arthur did not know, nor care. Sometimes it was one, sometimes it was all of them. But when he got to that point of reasoning, he forced himself to look away, and tried to think of something else.
The truth was, it was all a bit too much. Merlin was a bit too much.
- Or, the one in which Arthur is attracted to Merlin, and handles it... prattishly.

Originally posted on FFnet in 2015.
Original 2015 Description:
"Y-you said you would come back."
"I know. And I did."
"N-no, you didn't."
Arthur needs to face his biggest mistake.
Updated 2025 Description for Ao3**:
Arthur can't take back what he did to Merlin. Gwen won't speak to him, his knights have lost their faith, and Morgana's army marches ever closer to Camelot, but Arthur can't undo what he's done, even though he desperately wishes he could.
With his sins laid bare for everyone to see and Merlin fighting for his life, Arthur must walk the path of atonement.
**updated description, but don't worry, this story still has all the typos and grammar problems you knew and loved from 2015! Just for you! I have not fixed any of them! Even though I really wanted to and might eventually publish an edited version in the future!

Summary
“Shut up!” he yells, and it’s right here where he makes the biggest mistake in Mercia’s visit.
Having your head smashed into a concrete wall isn’t something Merlin would recommend. “Don’t you fucking dare yell at me. Do you understand? How dare you be so insolent. You know, I was going to give you a small kick and be done with it, let the Prince deal with you himself as I’m sure he does. But no one disrespects me like that, boy. You hear me?”Merlin knows that Arthur doesn't truly hurt him because he wants to, he knows that the prince is just used to horseplay. Merlin also knows that Arthur would never beat him, or any servant for that matter, and he's secure in his knowledge of that. Visiting knights, however, seem to have a different idea of what happens behind closed doors, especially when they see all the things Arthur throws at his servant. So, if the prince can hurt Merlin, why can't they?

Dragoon (the Great) has informed Arthur that his servant was enchanted. Its alarming how freeing that actually was. After all, anything he did or said could be blamed on the enchantment... (It was alarming at how guilty he felt, seeing the concern on everyone's faces).

Summary
In the wake of killing Carleon, Arthur realises that this is not the sort of King he wants to be. So he asks Merlin how he knew about Agravaine, and to his surprise, Merlin gives him an extremely sound and well researched set of arguments, that he promises he has the physical papers to back up.
Or
"And what of me, Merlin? When you are dead." Arthur demanded, eyes pinning him to their proximity. "Do you truly expect me to let go of you long enough for them to lay you to rest?"
Merlin inhaled sharply, for a moment Arthur thought he would protest, insist his life was nothing compared to Arthur's, but Merlin only looked at Arthur, as if he was measuring the depth of his words, the give of his eyes, and Arthur refused to look away, he thought that if he squinted, he could see the stars in Merlin's eyes.

Summary
"Speak treason against my uncle again, and I swear you can join yours in exile forever!” Arthur's voice thundered across the throne room. All Merlin had done was address his suspicions of Agravaines betrayal and framing Gaius. He hadn’t even mentioned Morgana, or even Uthers death.
“There will not be any reason for banishment, sire. I leave Camelot willingly.”
Merlin didn’t bow. Nor did he look back as he walked out of the throneroom, leaving a heartbroken Arthur behind him. After the big wooden doors closed shut, he could hear shouts and disagreements. -

Summary
"Merlin pinched at the bridge of his nose. He looked a little like Gaius when he did that.
'Arthur, I know that you feel guilty. I get it. I really do. By the Three, I probably know better than most.” There was a wry chuckle. “But for this to mean something, really mean something… you gotta say something.'
'I just… after everything…'
Merlin smoothed Arthur’s collar.
'I know. And I appreciate it. It means a lot, to all of us. That you’d be willing to just… but you have to be an active participant, Arthur. For it to mean anything. Please.'"
Or: What happens when a man who tries to be the embodiment of justice and mercy learns of his own culpability in participating in and perpetuating an atrocity

Summary
An attack by a group of assassins leads to Merlin’s magic being revealed and Arthur doesn’t take it well. Meanwhile, Uther’s knights hate Merlin and Gwaine and the Knights of the Round Table are just about ready to stage an uprising. Feat. Arthur having a massive existential crisis.
(Sorry I suck at summaries let me insert a small snippet)
“Why did you do it?” He tries his best to mask the desperation and betrayal from his voice. He needed to judge this as a king. “You know what it did to Morgana. You know how the forces of sorcery corrupt. You’ve been supporting me all these years in the fight against magic, haven’t you? So why would you resort to such a revolting power such as magic?”
“I was born with it. I am magic.” Arthur felt his self-control snap.
“Then why the hell would you come here?” He practically shouted.
Merlin made no move to answer, silently staring at him through hooded eyes.
Arthur felt his temper flare. He made his way out of the dungeons, giving the guards orders to keep a close eye on the sorcerer.
