Summary
The Joint Integration Boot Camp brought together the best — Marines, Navy, Space Force, Air Force — and expected them to act as one.
Slovacek thought he’d seen every kind of recruit until Elsie Lane walked in: a helicopter pilot trainee with too much talent, too much sarcasm, and an unnerving ability to make him forget the mission. She flies like chaos. He moves like order.
And somewhere between the drills, the desert heat, and the endless simulations, something real starts to take off.

Summary
You say, “get out of here, Recruit,” as mean as you can, as unfriendly as you can make it. The kind of voice that makes other recruits just about piss their pants.
Cope just looks at you, all the way from the door. A tin cup between his hands. In five small, carefully balanced steps, he crosses the room to you. He puts the cup down on the desk, beside your left wrist. “Dismissed, Cope,” you say through your teeth. He turns silently on his heel and leaves. He leaves the door open, so you can hear them cheering for him.
Someone jokes that he’s survived the dragons den, and you wonder if they know.
After a moment, you pick up the cup. It’s half full of whiskey, strong as a memory. Out there, the recruits start singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and you are elsewhere, remembering Maitra’s eyes that day when he’d called Wilkinson a faggot. The way he’d looked at you, your hands still over the pieces of your disassembled rifle, a song still on your lips, and he’d known—or, you’d known that he suspected.
You put your lips to the edge of the cup, imagining Copes mouth on the metal, and sip slowly, like it’s something else you’re tasting.
Again, you are wanting something you don’t deserve to have.

Summary
Staff Sergeant McKinnon senses anxiety before he catches the confused expression on Sergeant Sullivan’s face. He realizes two things at the same time: Sullivan had never looked that confused in the 13 weeks they’d known each other, and Sullivan probably had no experience with kids. Well, little kids.
“He wants you to pick him up. I’d say it’s your choice, but he inherited stubborn from both sides.” McKinnon smiles and turns to scrape burger gunk off the grill.
Sullivan looks down at the toddler clutching his knee with one hand and a toy in the other, staring up at him with curiosity and impatience. This was not how he expected the day to go, not even close.Series

Summary
Bobby had been lucky, so lucky that Maitra decided on the first day of boot camp that he was just a skinny little shit that never quite toughened up and not the faggot everyone else immediately seemed to assume him to be. Not that they were wrong.
“Is Major Wilkinson a homosexual?”
Fuck.
“Did you have a relationship with Major Wilkinson?”
FUCK.And if he had to get a tattoo that said "I Love You" in big bold letters on his chest to make all of it disappear, to turn back time to how it was before Parris Island he would do it. He would give everything for the chance of doing it.
...
A recollection of Bobby's weeks as a DI at boot camp.

Summary
Cameron swallows. "No one can change your life except for you. And my life needs a change, sir."
"Son, boot camp is a machine that turns boys into men. In thirteen weeks, you won't even recognize yourself. Are you sure you're ready for that?"
Cameron doesn't think he'll ever get more ready in his life.
