I wanted to play with the idea of the four careers from the 74th being those in the quell, and what would ensure if there were more of the youngest careers involved when the war broke out. What started as a single to get Clato through the revolution turned into a story of multi generational career friendship, shared trauma, and growth.
I am a careers apologist and this will maybe turn you into one, too.

Summary
There’s a tense silence in District 12 as the people can all tell what is going on, yet all remain silent. There’s no reason to voice the truth, when it is so obvious to everyone. And of course they wouldn’t voice it even if it wasn’t, not when holding their tongue was expected, and people were too fearful to disobey. Not when the outcome is already spelled with doom, and that there is nothing left to be done anyway.
Not when it could lead to the same outcome, with them being the next victims.

Summary
During the reaping of the 59th Hunger Games, Jane Calhoun, is selected as District 12's female tribute. Jane has little hope of her survival as she isn't very strong and her mentor seems more interested in drinking.
They way he calls her sweetheart fills her with rage, but her snarky remarks only fuel Haymitch's interest. Soon, the need to protect her is stronger than his need to drink.
Haymitch is about 25 during the start of this and Jane is 17, so this does have an age gap.

All things considered, Gustavo Fernandez's life isn't too bad. He has a warm bed. He eats (mostly) consistent meals. He frequently wins wrestling competitions at his school, when he's not working in the stockyards that is. He spends time with his bookish lover. The one thing he can't stand is summertime. District Ten is an arid and dry climate, so summers are brutal. He doesn't think anything can be worse than summer until he's confronted with the worse nightmare of any child in Panem, the Hunger Games.

"And second, it wasn't just about me," Katniss continues, and I look up at her in surprise. I'd known Peeta cared about me, of course, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't just about Katniss. But the willingness to literally kill himself for me? That's different.
"What do you mean?" I ask, because she sounds so sure, and unless I was reading him entirely wrong and he'd also told Katniss at some point that he didn't care about her or something, she has no way of knowing that.
Katniss sighs again, staring off into the distance. "On the second day of the Games," she starts, "when you were stuck in that tree and they sent Rue up to get you, there was a time where Peeta and Thresh were alone together, just waiting for the chance to distract the Careers. And they used that time to make a deal with each other. If it got to the end, and it came down to the Victor being one of them or either you or Rue, they would die so that one of you could live." Katniss lets out a breath, softly, as I try to process those words. To understand what she's telling me. "That was the real rebellion. Not Peeta eating those berries, that wasn't the beginning. The real rebellion was when two boys from different districts made a deal to try to save two little girls they barely knew, no matter what, even at the cost of their own lives. That was the defiance that started everything. Peeta just carried through with it, told the districts that they could rebel and succeed." I stare at her, unable to process this. To understand the enormity of what Thresh and Peeta did. Not just in the scope of the rebellion, but that they cared enough to do it at all. “I can’t love him," Katniss continues softly. ‘"I didn’t know him. But for what he did… for how he gave his word and went through with it… I can respect him, for that.”
That on its own is huge. Katniss doesn't respect many people, even those she does care about. It takes a lot, to win that from her. It means something, that Peeta, a boy that, as she said, she didn't know, could.
Maybe that's what gets it to sink in, exactly how big this is. I doubt Peeta and Thresh meant to start all this, with those words. But when they followed through, when I survived, a little girl that never should have been the last one standing in the Games, that changed something. And maybe I did do something, fighting to the end, to allow them to follow through. Maybe I did something when I fell in love with a girl who I never should have met, who was sent to die beside me. Maybe I did something when I agreed to an alliance that became a sort of strange, rushed family of strangers who still cared about each other enough to die for each other.

With that, she jumps off the rock and thrusts the spear at him, and Tubbo is shoved into his first real fight since the Games began.
He barely manages to dodge the spearhead before it clangs into the rocks, but then she comes at him with the small knife. He feels a splitting pain on his forehead, and suddenly half his vision is red.
He yells out in pain, resisting the urge to curl up in a ball. His left hand goes instinctively to cover the wound just above his left eye, and he looks up to find the spear coming at him again.
Knife.
He slashes upwards, deflecting the spearhead but not cutting the shaft because the whole thing is made of shiny silver Capital metal. The noise of metal scraping against metal rings across the clearing, screeching in his ears.
His heart is pounding in his throat and he can barely hear.
