“Gentleman, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I think we have the answer for you, and, um, I think there’s something that you should know. We’re, uh… we’re getting married,” she says, giving Roman a light pat on the stomach.
“We’re what--” He sees the frantic look on Gerri’s face and he knows this is happening. He also knows he’s going along with it, for many reasons. One, because he fucked up, but two--because he suddenly realizes that Gerri needs him. Ahhh, leverage. Two can play at this game. “We’re--oh. We are getting married.”

Gerri is a little startled, actually, because she has been eyeing a Cartier watch for months now. He really does notice everything. It’s slightly unnerving.

Gerri can’t keep her eyes off of Roman as he finishes this romantic little story of his. How long has he been thinking about this? How does he know that what he just described sounds absolutely perfect to her?

Everyone starts chanting “Kiss her, kiss her!” until Roman grabs Gerri by the wrist, pulls her closer to him, and gives her a peck on the lips. Except it’s not a small peck, nor a short one. As cliché as it sounds, there’s a hint of electricity that sparks between them. Roman’s lips are very soft, and very gentle, and before she even thinks about it, she’s parting her own lips and he’s deepening the kiss.

Plus, he’s desperately trying not to check her out but it’s impossible--she’s right in front of his face, with all her delectable curves and her… ample bosom and her round thighs and her delicate collarbone and did he mention her ample bosom? Oh, fuck. Oh, shit. Oh, god.

“Thinking your older boss is attractive is very interesting. You’re kind of a perverted little freak, aren’t you?” She doesn’t know how this will land, but she’s… testing a theory. Perhaps validating a suspicion she’s had about Roman in the back of her head for some time now. When she hears the slightest bit of an exhale from down below, she knows she’s onto something here. “Yeah. Yeah, maybe I am.”

He sits up against a pillow and Gerri inserts himself into his arms. He can’t help but notice how soft her skin is as they both try to find a comfortable position. She smells good, too, even after a full night of sleep. Also her hair is wavier than he’s used to seeing. He knows it’s naturally curly and she straightens it every day, and he kind of wants to run his fingers through it--

“I care about him very much, you know,” Gerri says in a near-whisper. “I would never do anything to hurt him. I just want you to know that.” No matter how confusing her feelings for Roman are right now, those two things are true.
“I know, honey. I can see that so clearly in your eyes. Your intentions are pure. Oh--there you are, Roman! I didn’t see you standing there, you little sneak!”
Gerri spins around to see Roman coming into the stable. He gives her a smile, and then a kiss on the cheek when he stands by her side.

“Are you okay, dear?” Rose looks very concerned.
“Well, I just, uh--I just wanted--” She’s stammering. This is not helping. “I just wanted to make sure there’s enough time to get the sewing done.”

Gerri gives him a cute little grin. “Oh, yeah? And why do you want me to know that?”
“You know why,” he whispers, running his thumb over her damp shoulder as he looks deep into her eyes.
They both lean in at the same time, and while it’s not exactly the best conditions in which to share a kiss, it doesn’t matter. Roman glides his hand around the back of Gerri’s neck to bring her closer. Her lips are so soft beneath his, and when they open for him, he gently sweeps his tongue inside her mouth. She tastes so fucking good Roman thinks he might just go insane. Their small hums of pleasure are the only sound in the stable.

Gerri can’t sleep. And she can’t stop thinking about him. Roman can’t leave. Not now. Not when… not when she just promoted him. Not when he’s so close to finally starting to achieve his career goals. And especially not when they just started figuring… this out. Her thoughts linger back to that kiss in the stable. It’s been a long time since she’s been kissed like that.

“Gerri. This was a business deal. And you held up your end, but now the deal is off.”
Gerri realizes it’s dramatic but she thinks she can actually feel her heart breaking. He doesn’t mean that. He can’t mean that. It was never just a business deal.

“I’d like that,” Gerri murmurs. She realizes Roman thinks she’s kidding or that she’d be out of her mind to want to meet his mother, but she’s curious. Now that she’s gotten a glimpse of who he actually is and what is important to him, she finds herself wanting to know more about where he came from. She finds herself wanting to know everything.

“I know what you’re going to say, and please, Gerri, before you walk away--” Gerri steps closer to him, so close she can feel the warmth of his breath on her face. She gently leans in and grazes his lips with her own.

Gerri nods, and he thinks her shoulders even relax a bit as she registers his sincerity. “Right,” she clears her throat a little, gesturing towards him as she offers, “For your birthday, I’m assuming?”
The words are enough to make his heart leap into his throat, a tidal wave of self-pity crashing against his ribcage as he realizes how badly he’d needed her to acknowledge this stupid marker of his stupid life.
