“You think we should stop doing this?” Nagumo breaks the silence, voice muffled by the pillow.
“Don’t lie on your stomach while catching your breath,” Sakamoto reprimands. The back of his head is sticking to Nagumo’s spine, damp hair on damp skin. The sheet has been defiled until there’s barely space to sleep comfortably on. That’s another laundry to do.
“How can I get up when your big, stupid head is on me?”

“I really don’t want to intrude, okay?” she admits honestly, the snake still moving around her ribs. “The last thing I want is you complaining to me about how you don’t spend enough time with your girlfriend.”
“You really love that word, huh?” Nagumo retorts, his back now to her. It’s broad, and his shoulder blades look strong against the dark fabric of his long-sleeved shirt. Akao knows he’s built, has felt it like warm iron under her palms. Akao wishes she could see his face instead; she’s more acclimated to looking at his frog-like face than his large back.
Akao’s mouth clamps shut. Nagumo looks back at her, eyes hooded like he’s caught her in a trap. In a way, he has.
Nagumo gets a girlfriend. Akao could not care less.
