Summary
Naruto is the jailor for the village's most hated demon, Kurama. He puts up a physiological mask to help both lessen the physical pain, and to help him cope with the mental effects. His bright smiles and predictably unpredictable actions helped him feel normal in a sorts. It helped him feel as if there was a reasoning to the abuse he suffered.
Yet... He hated them. He hated Konoha. Life wasn't fair, but it seemed to be especially unfavorable to him.

History books don't really relate the birth of marks. One can find within their pages legends that would explain their appearance, but no scientific fact can give them a meaning. The only accuracy we can be sure of is that marks determine the identity of soulmates, people who complement each other perfectly and who can unfold their true potential once together.
Shikamaru Nara was one of the few chosen and, since they appeared, the marks printed on his wrists left him perplexed. He didn't come from a prestigious clan like the Senju or the Uchiha, he didn't have extraordinary power like Gaara or Naruto, and he was certainly not the type of man who needed an other half — lazy and cunning as he was, a complementary person would drive him crazy.
However, fate had decided to give him not one, but two soulmates. Obviously, such a case had never been reported anywhere, thus making Shikamaru and his soulmates anomalies.

and while sasuke is happy to have his brother home, to have an explanation, to have peace, he is still a gennin, technically a reformed traitor, and his closest friends don't seem as keen on this whole forgiveness thing as he may have been led to believe.
