It's been a few years since Grizabella left the clan. She was worn out, hungry, and isolated in the snowstorm. She was walking into an alleyway, looking for shelter, hoping that luck may happen in her favor to give her food. Then she looked up to see what she was looking for a box to keep shelter upside up, ready for the take. All of a sudden, Grizabella heard tiny meows from the pack. She looked into the box out of curiosity, and the surprise she saw would permanently change her life.

Demeter used to worry herself sick that something was wrong. That her kitten had no voice. That she cried so little. And that when her eyes opened, all too early, frighteningly early, she did not so much as utter a squeak at her first sight of the world.
But these days, on rare and precious occasion, Jemima will whisper to her. A word, two words, a question or a secret. She’ll whisper so well and carefully that Demeter just can’t imagine she’s doing anything other than making the conscious choice to withhold her words from everyone else.
She only ever speaks with her, as such. It warms Demeter more than anything else might, these days. A word from her quiet daughter.

Coricopat exhaled on a deep sigh, and Tantomile’s body sank with it as though his breath rattled through both of them. “I cannot say it in words.”
“No one can say it in words.” Tantomile touched Jemima’s cheek softly, brushing just the tips of her claws against her skin, and took care not to get it caught on the fur. “Not even you.”
“Not even when you realize what it means.” Coricopat reached out, too, tapping the back of Tantomile’s knuckles with his fingertips. “Some things cannot be worded.”
Tantomile tilted her hand, brushing it downward before she hooked it under Jemima’s chin. “Some things are only for your mind.”
