Fantasy of a self-ordained future haunts Theda in daydreams, even as the walls of a noble's obligations close in on her. Backstabbing politics, advantageous marriage, planning banquets and raising heirs. Anything else was pure imagination.
Until a strange guest of her father comes claiming to seek Ser Gilmore's aid for his elite order on the eve that Arl Howe arrives to join their companies to form a division for the war in the South. This Duncan, held in high esteem by the Teyrn, seems unimpressed with Theda's squandered potential. She wonders idly if she'd spent more time in the armoury instead of the drawing room, he'd have done more than laugh at the idea of conscripting her. For it was laughable, and a strange, lone thought from Ser Gilmore.
She was to protect the line of succession for Highever behind her brother with a solid marriage to a noble of respectable standing, that was that.

“And the cat will drag you down?” Tawana asks.
“Free Marches is no place for a cat.”
She nods, but how is she to know what Free Marches is like? Maker, she’s barely been out of the Circle for two years now and there’s still a lot to see in Ferelden that she hasn’t had the chance to appreciate in her hurried run around the place when the Blight was going on. All she knows, is that it used to be a slaver’s paradise up there. She’s happy not to go near it. She doesn’t get why Anders ever would.
“Is it a place for you?” She asks.
He shakes his head.Takes place before and after the merging of Anders and Justice. A chat between a lonely Warden-Commander and an Anders set on leaving the Wardens: shared pasts in the Circle, dealing with pets, and the consequences of helping your rotting friend.

Leaving Redcliffe and a still-comatose Arl Eamon behind, Lyr Surana leads the party (plus the newly-conscripted Jowan) on the next leg of their mad quest to stop the Blight. Alistair should really be keeping an eye on the known blood mage, or the growing relationship between Lyr and Morrigan, but his attention keeps snagging on Zevran, even though he’s fairly sure the assassin isn’t going to do any assassinating. Fairly sure isn’t the same as completely sure, however, so it’s justified, right? Never mind that Zevran is kind of funny, skilled at fighting by Alistair’s side, and maybe isn’t as unfeeling as one might think.
